A 73-year-old concealed carry permit holder shot a 22-year-old suspect three times Thursday morning in Fresno, California, after the suspect allegedly attacked the permit holder with a stick. Your Central Valley reports that the permit holder was taking his normal, early morning walk along a canal when the suspect approached and a “verbal confrontation” ensued.
Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said the confrontation escalated when the suspect allegedly “picked up a large stick or wooden object” and struck the 73-year-old. The elderly man pulled a handgun and shot the suspect three times in response.

How come I didn’t read about this in the local newspaper. Oh yeah, a good guy uses a gun for protection. We can’t promote that idea.

This just in: 14 year old boy (22 in this case) learns that a 60 year old man (73 in this case) arrives at that stage of life after having been a soldier/longshoreman/police officer/martial arts expert/sharpshooter/corrections officer/serial killer/ex-con/construction laborer/professional boxer/hitman or any combination thereof. These experiences are combined with the use or abuse of drugs and alcohol over a period of decades and then filtered with prejudices, relational disappointments, frustrations, and a fear of what the future holds. Lapping over all of this is a wash of irrational anger that the powers he once commanded are slipping through his fingers. Now from behind the young man’s lifted blinders, he can clearly see that he has been in the presence of an infinitely dangerous predator with skills, experience, and motives that are far beyond his comprehension. If he has wisdom, the young man would make amends to the elder and thank him for administering a lesson that may well extend his years on this planet. If not, I wouldn’t give him odds past 16. There are 58 counties in California. Today, you can get a CCW permit for the asking in 35 of them!

The old man should get ready for a lawsuit.
In every state except Hawaii more people identify as Conservatives than Liberals.
According to the NRA which bases its data on FBI statistics, armed citizens save both themselves and others including love ones between 1.25 - 2.5 Million times each year. Not in all instances was a shot fired. Many times the miscreant(s) see the firearm and run for their useless lives.
Plan A: “Stick violence” - thugs with clubs beat old men any time the thugs are bored, feeling disrespected, or just want to steal.
Plan B: “Gun violence” - when thugs attack innocent people, those attacked defend themselves effectively, even if size, age, or numbers are in favor of the thugs.
Democrats like Plan A, because that protects their voters. Normal Americans like Plan B - we will not be victims.
Id depends on the chief leo in your county.
This makes for a problem when people talk about California seceding. Not all of California thinks like LA/SF/Sacramento and want to secede. Thus, quite a tussle would occur within Calif if serious secession talks began.
