We had this crap going on during the May Day "day without a mexican" a few years ago. Flyers all over the place and hundreds of student skipped class. About 5 participated in an organized protest. The rest were bragging about going up to the river for the day.
I know how you feel and agree with you in principle. However you cannot seriously believe that a combination of the NEA and adolescents seeking 15 minutes of fame aren't exactly "political action centers".
They should not be allowed first amendment rights until age 21.
The only “balancing act” is how much the school administrators should be publicly flogged if they allow, much less encourage, such a walkout.
“”””””Mine is assigning 20 hours of community service to kids that walk out.”””””””
Make them pass a test on the Constitution before they are allowed back to school.
They are.
yeah. let the democrat party pay for this BS. This is their little demonstration. Property tax is high enough as it is because of schools.
Theyre under 18 so they dont have second amendment rights... oh, wait, I wonder what that says about them having first? ;-)
IMHO a simple question.
At what age does a person achieve the full rights of American CITIZENSHIP?
Depending on the subject, rights of American CITIZENSHIP start as young as 7 or as old as 21. I base my age window based on the entire Constitution; 7 for sexual identification, the 19th Amendment (by extension of the right to vote) and 21 for the ability to purchase an AR-17, the 2nd Amendment.
No matter what age is initially selected liberals and their supporting infrastructure will argue for a younger age. Life will get interesting as really young ages are discussed (we are already in some areas down to grade school ages ((gender self identification)).
The real fun starts when you start encroaching on the abortion issue/ages.
Our school district issued a statement that “there will be NO disruption of classes tolerated. Any student who chooses to leave any class will be immediately suspended for three days. No exceptions”.
Then again, in OUR schools, the kids are taught manners and respect for their elders. They are also taught that Christ is our savior and that He is the reason why we celebrate Christmas.
We will not tolerate any of that PC bullschiff in our schools.
Baloney! This is what they've been indoctrinating them for for decades.
There are School/Student relationships and Parent/Child relationships. It’s the Rules vs. Rights within each relationship that people must acknowledge and understand if we are to have a Rules of Law in our society. Otherwise the Law of the Jungle will prevail and we live like heathens.
In the School/Student relationship the schools make the rules. Kids (minors) do not have the rights to make the rules for the schools. The school must be the governing authority to which the student is subject while at school.
In the Parent/Child relationship the parent(s) make the rules. Kids (minors) do not have the rights to make their rules until they are adults. The parent(s) must be the governing authority to which the children are subject while at home.
By becoming an adult, a child acquires the rights to be an authority and make the rules they live under. Until then, they have no rights as such in both the relationships given above.
So, the question is: do students have the right to disobey the rules and reject authority. The answer is YES if they are willing to pay the price for breaking the rules. If they are not, the answer is NO.
For schools and parents who let their minors decide “for themselves” there will be unintended consequences and collateral damage to those relationships. For our society to function there must be rules, relationships, and boundaries. Sometimes it seems like the adults have left the room and the children unsupervised.
When I was a kid and I skipped school: If I was a first-time offender, the school only threatened me with disciplinary action (after school stuff), then gave me a note to take home for my parents to read, sign and return. At home I usually got a good verbal (sometimes a$$) whipping and some additional chores around the house for a period of time. Then they signed the note and I returned it next school day. I think along the way my free speech rights, cruel and unusual punishment, and double jeopardy rights were violated. But I was a kid, I didn’t have a lawyer on retainer to defend myself.
Note to Snowflakes: Yes, a$$ whippings and other atrocities of life did occur back then - from childhood into adulthood you could expect them. There were No SAFE zones and psychological help wasn’t available. If you sassed your parents, principle/teacher, neighbor, bookie, loan shark, union enforcer, MAFIA don, Irish hooligan buddys, and list goes on, you could expect to get your a$$ whipped. And you learned not to mess with nuns either. So, as we say in Texas - STAY FRIENDLY - cause the guy next to you might be carrying a can of a$$-whoop.
Here they are protesting something rare and will not likely affect them.
Why arent they protesting endless wars around the world that will kill one or two members of their class over the next ten years?
They dont know what is important to them.
There's no hand-wringing or brow-furrowing when they trash the Fourth Amendment via random locker searches. "The Constitution doesn't apply in schools", or "We are functioning as parents", or somesuch hogwash is supposed to be some kind of magic spell that makes it all ok.
Detention for everybody. If there was a test that day or that period, it's a zero.
THis is such total b.s. Schools are off for WEEKENDS, students can exercise their (wrongly labeled) “1st Amendment rights” without any effect on school attendance. Oh, but they WANT an excuse to skip school, duh.
Responsible administrators and teachers should have said from the start, “plan this on YOUR own time, not on school time.”
NO STUDENT SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO WALK OUT!!! ANARCHY!!!!
now we can see how the system has created followers and not leaders. Believers in what they are told rather than finding the truth themselves
They didn’t walk out over guns, they walked out just to skip school.
Teachers who objected to participating in this charade were told that there would be a Fire Drill, ensuring 100% participation.
