As schools around the country brace for student walkouts following the deadly shooting in Parkland, Florida, principals and superintendents are scrambling to perform a delicate balancing act: How to let thousands of students exercise their First Amendment rights while not disrupting school and not pulling administrators into the raging debate over gun control. Some have taken a hard line, promising to suspend students who walk out, while others are using a softer approach, working with students to set up places on campus where they can remember the victims of the Florida shooting and express their views about school safety and gun control.

Why should my tax dollars be used to pay for a political protest?

Let the democRAT party have to pay for the logistics involved and force them to have their little protest on a Saturday

Oh wait, no kids would show up on a Saturday

Kids like cutting class, this is just a reason to cut class. The liberals will use this as “look the kids hate Trump” moment.

Sucks when they own and control the schools though their unions.

Who really worries about the First Amendment rights of a bunch of teenagers? They are hormone-charged idiots. If they walk out, give them an unexcused absence for the day.

Absolutely. The choice should be theirs.

If over half of them walk out, I would extend the school year one extra day and have the teachers work it for free.

This is because the teachers have to approve of this crap too if that many students believe they can write their own schedule.

Are we now to have national policy, rules and laws based on what school children want?

It's already started in Florida.
And with a republican legislature and a republican governor no less.

Can we get some clear thinking adults in office the next round of elections?

Schools are NOT political action centers. PERIOD.

Any school administration that refuses to punish this or, worse, encourages this needs to have their boards dissolved and the school officials fired IMMEDIATELY.

Zero tolerance here.

Of course these same administrators would punish walk outs for pro-life or pro-Trump or even pro-America marches.

Do NOT let the school systems get away with this.

These fake protests will stop as soon as someone stops paying them to do so.

If it is a first amendment right to walk out then how can you ever keep them in?

These kids are not walking out to protest, they are walking out to get a day off and out of class! They could care less about politics. Are there any adults running these schools who understand this!

This entire demonstration, organized by the government educational system, is a cover up for their failure.

Well, most of those teachers and administrators would have never had a problem with the creeps they voted for having whacked these kiddies prior to birth.

Sadly, I have to ask: by who?

The inmates not only run the asylum, they've ejected all adult supervision.

This is Reason #1 to abolish public schools. The public schools you will receive will obtain the approval of the most gullible 51% of the voting population.

Teachers unions are behind this. My sister is a teacher, and my mom actually wrote her out of the will because of crap like this.
