The host of America's Most Wanted, who also helped create a national registry for sex offenders, says the same system is needed for mentally ill people looking to buy guns.
We got John Walsh Saturday at LAX and asked what he made of Florida's new gun law -- in which the age limit to purchase guns was raised to 21 ... and teachers can now be armed.
He says it's a step in the right direction, but also thinks arming teachers is the wrong way to protect schools from potential shooters -- he wants trained pros on the ground instead.
Here's the most interesting tidbit ... John apparently believes a national registry logging people with serious mental illness needs to be implemented for would-be gun owners.

Nope

A sex offender DID something. A state of Mental illness is a matter of opinion.
Gosh, just like the old Soviet Union.
Thesis: the Marxist State is perfect, therefore anyone who opposes it must be insane.
Conclusion: All those who oppose the State must be mentally ill and confined to psychiatric hospitals.
Look forward to anyone who opposes the State to be labelled thusly and deprived of their Second Amendment rights.
Correction....
We need a mental illness registry for Democrat would-be gun owners
Golly! I wonder who gets to define what mental illness” is?
Hint: whoever is in power at the time.
Well now, let’s not put the cart before the horse.
First, we need to reopen more facilities that are suitable for long term mental health care. Some people with these issues are afflicted chronically, and will always require supervison and treatment. Certainly not all, but a large number. Let’s get that in order first.
We call it The Democratic Party.
I cannot wait until the ACLU is asked to comment on this!
Damn you. Beat me to it.
Worked for Hitler and Stalin.
Who decides who is mentally ill?
Democrat politicians or liberal psychiatrists?
Plenty of room for bias and subjective determination there.
Well gosh, I think the trauma of Walsh losing his son makes him potentially unstable and his right to own a gun should be reviewed. See how that shit works John?
How do you have that type of registry with the HIPAA laws?
BTW - If the FL shooter was allowed to slip through the cracks even with dozens of reports to the police and FBI, why would something new work?
So we now go down the slippery slope of you will be put on list because you may have a mental problem. There are tons of people with some sort of problem and they function just fine, but because they get some sort of professional help, will that Doctor or Professional be mandated to report that and then you get put on a list??????
What nest then what lists will the Communist/Socialist/Democrats then want next???? Theoretically we could all be put on a list.
hey I’m all for banning democrats from having guns sounds good to me
BTW, John, that "trained professional on the ground" sure was effective, wasn't he?
My point: I can see people railroaded ONTO the list in order to confiscate their weapons without them having any recourse.
It happens already when police stop someone and discover an INORDINATE amount of cash on their person and seize it without that individual being charged with anything.
The ACLU will at best, remain silent, at worst, come down on the anti-gun side. If they have to lock up a few liberals to deprive law abiding citizens firearms, they'll do it. The ACLU is all about the agenda and all too willing to crack a few eggs in pursuit of their utopian omelet.
