The White House has fired Steve Goldstein, the undersecretary of public affairs at the State Department, hours after replacing his boss, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
According to reports, the decision was made because Goldstein contradicted President Trump’s account of Tillerson’s firing when he stated that the former Exxon Mobile CEO was “unaware of the reason” he was being let go.

He also said Tillerson learned of his dismissal on Twitter, where Trump publicly announced it Tuesday morning and said CIA Chief Mike Pompeo would be replacing him.
“Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!” Trump wrote.

Tillerson, Goldstein argued, had “every intention of remaining… [he] did not speak to the President and is unaware of the reason” for his termination.
Trump said, however, that "Rex and I have been talking about this a long time. We — we got along actually quite well, but we disagreed on things. When you look at the Iran deal, I think it’s terrible. I guess he thought it was OK. I wanted to either break it or do something, and he felt a little bit differently. So we were not really thinking the same,” Trump explained Tuesday.
“With Mike, Mike Pompeo, we have a very similar thought process. I think it’s going to go very well. Rex is a very good man. I like Rex a lot. I really appreciate his commitment and his service. And I’ll be speaking to Rex over a long period of time.”
Yep!
To date the administration has not even nominated anyone for the Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs position or as Ambassador to South Korea. I fail to see how the Democrats can tie up the nomination process for people who haven't been named.
Guilty!
I spent 40 + years in large business and never saw anything like Trump.
Tillerson, an oil man, helped get the Saudis to have a major shifting of gears, internationally and on their own domestic front, as well as joining with Israel and the U.S. on security matters vis a vis Iran. Job well done.
Now there are other priorities, other new directions, and Trump needs a different project manager for them. End of story.
Oh please.. President Trump is far from cold.. There are times he’s too nice.
He is the epitome of efficiency... Much to Never-Trumpers chagrin.
Bwahahahahahaha! If youre gonna mess with the bull, be prepared to take the horn.
Ridiculous. No telling what Lee would have done if Longstreet had persisted. But Longstreet was right. The charge failed, and that was the beginning of the end for the Confederacy. So it was a lefthanded blessing, because the Union was saved.
Lots more indeed, and thank you for the reply. I’ve been watching this all day. Trump has finally reached a comfort zone with the distractions and is ready, at last, to really assert himself. This is a big day.
You fail to see how the democrats tying up the nomination process has resulted in a substantial backlog of nominees and a short circuiting of the nominating process. Look at the difficulty of interviewing nominees and asking them to put their lives on hold for one or more years while democrat Senators fritter away everyone’s time and effort. That should give you some inkling of the roadblocks the democrats have created to finding and naming quality nominees.
Condi Rice recommended Tillerson.
