Newt Gingrich: Trump, Republicans must wake up or Pelosi and Democrats will soon control the House
foxnews ^

Posted on 03/16/2018 7:56:41 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

It is time for Republicans nationwide to wake up to the very real threat of a Democratic-controlled House of Representatives led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, the current House minority leader.

This wake-up call is also for President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. Neither they, nor any other Republican, should underestimate how disastrous it would be for their policies and for the country to have a left-wing Democratic majority in the House.

Under Speaker Pelosi, there would be two years of investigations, fights over spending (to reduce defense and increase liberal dependency programs), efforts to undo President Trump’s deregulation achievements, and attempts to make new bureaucracies.

Even though the special election for Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District remains too close to call, the results are simply the latest in a series of special elections in which the Republicans have run well behind the 2016 presidential election results.

If the decline this fall is comparable to the drop in Pennsylvania, there will be a Democratic landslide.

The benefit of pulling the R lever is the Republican party is pro gun, pro life pro American while the Democrat is just lying to you for your vote. He/She will go to DC and vote exactly as Nancy Pelosie/Chucky Schumer tell them to.

Unfortunately, guys like Paul Rino and Mitch McTurtle, have done everything they can to hurt Trump and the conservative Republican brand. And, they’re not the only pubbies doing it. They just happen to be leadership. Piss-poor at that!

Been watching this stuff since JFK. Dems likely to take the House and it won’t be pretty.

The idea that Democrats will be better than GOPe RINOs is truly insane.

Really? Where is the GOP leadership on guns, trade and border security? When was the last time that Ryan or McConnell held a press conference and came out in support of those issues and stood firmly behind the President? Jeb Bush called illegal immigration an “act of love”. Would you take Joe Manchin over Jeb Bush? How about JFK over Mitch McConnell? At least we knew Kennedy loved his country, not so sure about some in the GOP-E, the only colors they salute are green.

The GOP and RNC need to wake up, sure... but what exactly do Trump and Pence need to do about it? They’re trying to keep their promises to us!

Here’s the problem (IMO).

Trump beat 17 Republicans to win the Presidency. He got enough Democrat votes in Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio to go to the White House, and he almost did the trick in New Hampshire and Minnesota, as well.

But Trump is not a Republican. He’s much too conservative for the GOP. There are more nationalists who are working-class Democrats than there are nationalist Republicans.

He had six months after January 20, 2017 to decide whether or not to continue to use the GOP as a vehicle, or to dump it.

He chose to keep it, reasoning (as a businessman would do) that, after a successful hostile takeover, most of the middle manager types (county chairmen, club leaders, Members of Congress and wannabes) would board the Trump train.

But this has not happened. The GOP electoral class is NOT on the Trump train. At best, they are sullenly cooperating. At worst, they are waiting for their friends across the aisle to take the majority back and kick him out.

Conor Lamb was a better Trumper (as a candidate) than Saccone. You can expect this pattern to be repeated in every purple and blue CD that Trump won in 2016.

I supported Trump from the day he declared, and I still do. I even send money (as if they need it!). But his alliance with the GOP after November 2016 was and is a mistake.

Out there in the United States, where the rubber meets the road, the only thing people hate worse than Democrats is Republicans. As we are about to find out.

Outside of DJT, and most of the Freedom Caucus, I can’t think of many Rs who are worth a damn.

Trump and the Freedom Caucus are are odds much of the time. They agreed on tax cuts but disagree on tariffs which seems to be Trumps main focus right now.

The GOP leadership WANTS the Dems to take over, Newt. They WANT Democrats to impeach Trump. In their minds that solves a myriad of problems for them while keeping their hands clean.

It’s a terrible miscalculation. If Trump is impeached CW 2.0 will be on. Bigtime.

I don’t understand why people continue to view PA-18 as some kind of repudiation of Trump.

Because the MSM has been desperate to keep this "referendum on Trump" theme alive for EVERY election since NOV 2016, and when they actually win one (which has been rare), they have to ride it for as long as possible.

I’m entering at #24. Amazing that no one yet has acknowledged the math. We have 51 Republican Senators. Three of them sabotaged Obamacare repeal. We need 60 votes to break a filibuster. There are only two questions that matter. Should we nuke the filibuster, which means a blank check for the dems the next time they have control? Or we can shut down the government and hope that, for the first time in 30 years, the GOP can win the politics of a shutdown. Those are the issues. Everything else is no more than hallucination or venting.

Excellent post and factually true.
Bush League Republicans will work to elect Democrats to prevent US (US citizens) from electing anyone who sides with US (US citizens) and the rule of law.
They have done it multiple times in the past.

So if the GOP-E and RINOS will enact the same policies as the Dems, we owe our vote to the GOP? If a Dem runs on Trump policies and actually votes the way they say they will, they don’t deserve our support? I thought FR was a Conservative site? We must vote Republican even if they go against what we stand for? Come on.

Agreed.

The time to take out RINOs is in the primaries.

In the general election, if your choice is between a RINO or Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House, hold your nose, vote for the RINO, and live to fight another day.
