Alex Stamos, Facebook’s chief security officer who helped track down how Russia harnessed the network for its 2016 disinformation campaign, is under a spotlight and reportedly set to resign later this year amid fallout over the social network's work with a data mining firm used by the Trump campaign.

The social network is reeling from revelations that data for 50 million users was harvested by Cambridge Analytica, and facing renewed scrutiny from lawmakers on both sides of the Atlantic, putting Stamos’s future at Facebook in doubt.

I am not concerned about Cambridge Analytica, I am concerned about the CIA and the rest of the Fed bugging agencies listening in on my phone calls and looking back at me while I am typing on my laptop.

If someone opened an app and gave consent for the data to be shared with the app owner, where is the “scandal”, here? Every time you open an app on Facebook, you get a message saying that using the app gives the app owner access to your Facebook profile and you have to acknowledge you understand this before proceeding. Unless they are alleging Facebook was hacked by this company, that is what occurred, and there was no “data breach.”

And also if people have their profiles set to “public” they have consented for the entire world to see their personal information - so nothing would have been “harvested” if they used that route either.

Fall guy for the next five years of Europe and FTC invesgitations. “Stamos came up with that idea.” “Stamos pushed that at every opportunity.” “Stamos had all the details on that.”

Alex Stamos, Facebook’s chief security officer who helped track down how Russia harnessed the network for its 2016 disinformation campaign...

What is really amazing is how the Russians did it all for the low, low price of $100k. Now that's what I'd call ROI!

What happened here is quite easy to unravel. Zuckerberg allowed Obozo to access the database to profile voters . He allowed the huge data base to be mined with soft ware the used algorithms. To do that require very detailed cooperation with the Democrats to read your crap on facebook to see if you profiles as a leftist or an American. Facebook Stock is crashing because insiders are selling in panic and the ramifications include a monster class action for damages and a scandal that wrecks facebook forever. He GAVE your profile to Democrats, lock stock and barrel. That is my opinion.

What if the app accessed the information of every "friend" on that user's list and that information ended up in the hands of Bronco Bama?

Would that be a scandal?

This data was used to benefit Democrats and not Republicans. That was not contracted for “owner use” is not Democrat use. This is a huge scandal that is blowing up as we speak.

Excellent point. Hitler would have loved Facebook. Perhaps our Government does to. How does anyone really know how their data is used? That goes for any Social media. If you use them, you absolutely have no control. And worse, anything that you input into it can be used against you at any time, for any reason (including what we type on FR.)

Question:
What sort of legal recourse would conservative facebook users have, who signed up for a social network service, and now know it was also, functionally, a leftist data mining operation. Would false advertising laws, or other deceptive practices laws be in play here?

Agreed. IF anybody happens to own FB stock, bail now while you can still get at least something for it. It’s on it’s way to the bottom of the crapper before the flush lever is hit...big time.

If the “friends” had their profiles set to public they already gave access to anyone who wanted it without any app. That’s a problem - a lot of people use Facebook without considering their privacy settings and leave them set to “public” - meaning all information is available to the general public - even those who are not registered Facebook users going to their profile pages.

What is FB?
Spying tool?
Who created it?
Who really created it?
Nothing is what it seems.

Bill Gates was a Clinton supporter and look what Clinton’s Justice department did to Microsoft. I’m sure Gates is still a Democrat.

or keep it, wait for it to bottom out, then buy a controlling interest and turn into something useful to conservatives.
