As schools across the nation wrestle with how to keep firearms off campus, Liberty University has opened a new gun range for students to brush up on their shooting skills.
The range, built at cost of $3.2 million, opened on Monday and is currently available only to students of the Christian school in Lynchburg, Virginia, WSET-TV reports.
But it will open to the public and law enforcement officers following commencement in May.
"What's unique about this facility is it's the only range on any college campus that has venues for all Olympic shooting sports. The rest of the world is moving away from the Second Amendment and the shooting sports," Brad Butler, a planning coordinator at Liberty, said in a recent interview.

Wow, the one area on campus where it is nearly guaranteed to NOT have a mass shooting
My Wife and I have been trying to figure out how in the world we are going to pay for our kids’ college.
Our oldest (of 3) is starting this fall.
It’s probably not going to be any less painful to pay for, but we are more certain with stories such as this, that she’s going to the right place this fall: Liberty U !!
Go Flames!
Keep reading the story :-) Liberty also allows firearms in Dorm rooms. Will probably be the safest educational institution in the Country!
My oldest starts there in the Fall... It is going to be a very tough transition for us, but I feel better about the situation.
What do you call it when the existence of a single institution prevents it’s own name from becoming the most entirely oxymoronic term of the day?
Liberty University - advanced degrees, high velocities, and the pinnacle of Oxyironies.
My “range” constist of a 20 year old picnic table, a 4x4 post and paper targets. Grand total = $5.00.
all it takes... course it’d be nice to be inside in winter and raining
Big for Longguns Olyimpic training.
Plus all the Lead hazards Crap, Air filters, etc. gotta meet osha Crap.
Does anyone know if the rifle range has benches? If so how many? Looking for another range to hold NBRSA benchrest matches.
Pretty talented dog, on the spotting scope.
“”For heavens sake, for the third time - its meatloaf!””
That’s funny - and believable!!!!
3.2 million dollars ?!
WHAT ?!
Are they handing out guns too ? like, SCARs ? Turnbull TAR10s ?
“”I work at a shooting range, and around many older shooters. Theyre all as deaf as a post. I know exactly what you mean.””
And that’s in spite of wearing ear protection for years. Same with “old pilots” who sit around the hangars and tell the same stories over and over. No one has heard a thing but they all act as if they did! You can barely hear a word that’s said anyway with the air traffic - another factor adding to the “hearing” problem....
