DNC's Perez: "Voter Suppression" To Only Count Number Of U.S. Citizens In Census

om Perez, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, joins MSNBC's MTP Daily to discuss the citizenship question being added to the 2020 census.
Guest host Katy Tur asked Perez shouldn't it matter who is a citizen of this country, in terms of representation, and who is not.
Perez said trying to figure out who and who is not a citizen is a "scare tactic" and called it "voter suppression" to only county U.S. citizens in the census. He said not counting non-citizens will hurt "funding formulas."
(snip)
They want to change it to count the number of U.S. citizens so that they can engage in very not subtle voter suppression. That is illegal and that is totally inconsistent with what the north star of the census in Republican and Democratic administration has been.
It's been about accuracy. That's why you see folks from the Bush administration and other Republicans who are calling out this complete overreach. I mean Donald Trump before this announcement was made was already fund raising off of this.
This is just another divide-and-conquer effort. This is a first cousin of this voter I.D. law to make sure that African-Americans and Latinos can't vote. This is not who we are as a nation. This is not why people died for the passage of the Voting Rights Act.

"In case Chairman Perez doesn't know, ONLY US citizens can vote in an election (local laws saying otherwise is not legal and can be challenged)." That isn't what he was talking about. He meant that representation is allocated based on population and if you undercount the population in a state then that state will end up with fewer representatives in Congress.

Hopefully middle of the road Democrats - if there is such a thing - and independents will wake up to that before the midterms. I mean how many times can they have it hammered into their heads that the Democratic party cares more about illegals than them? Especially the college crowd, how about they ask Nancy Pelosi to give a 8 hour speech on why colleges price gouge tuition? No, instead she’s giving an 8 hour speech for foreign invaders and being the brain dead indoctrinated idiots they are they support her.
To: bray
They are concerned with illegal voter suppression.
To: Sir Napsalot
Trump should just announce before the mid terms that any illegal immigrant caught voting will be deported immediately and he will have ICE at polls scattered in each district to check.

Fewer Americans want to vote Democrat so they want to import illegals to vote for them.

It’s not just Democrats.
Dubya never met an illegal alien that he didn’t want to amnesty.

And make sure that Hillary, Nancy, Kamala and Warren are front and center, as much as possible. They are so smart.

He doesn't belong in elective office, but he's perfect for the DNC. Thanks Sir Napsalot.

If the illegal checks “yes” for American citizen, it can be checked. At that point if found that the person is on a voter registration roll, they can be arrested.
At that point it would be suppression. That is “illegal voter suppression”, which the DNC has benefited from in the past.
The illegal could then be deported.

The link does not work for me, and I can't find the article on the internet.
Plus RCP website is very invasive w/stuff that has to be maneuvered around to read text.
I did find the following article on Laura Ingraham’s news site:
Immigration think tank director says blue-state liberals fear loss of power if decennial count of American population only covers citizens, legal residents
March 27, 2018
Mondays announcement that the U.S. Census Bureau will include a citizenship question in its decennial head count in 2020 sparked all kinds of caterwauling from the Left and a legal challenge from the Golden State.
California Secretary of State Alex Padilla called the move an attempt to stoke the fires of anti-immigrant hostility.
Government funding is based, in part, on population figures. But Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), said on The Laura Ingraham Show Tuesday that California politicians are most concerned about the loss of congressional seats.
The important thing is they arent just afraid of losing money for Medicare and other kinds of things, he said. What they really fear, ultimately, is that House districts, House of Representative apportionment to the states, will be based on actual citizens rather than just warm bodies.

Only if they’re Russian illegals.
To: Sir Napsalot
In all practicality, the effect of this is fewer people reported living in high-illegal states such as those on the border with Mexico and Florida. It would slow down the reapportionment of congressional representatives and electoral votes from the Northeast and the Rust Belt to the South, West and Southwest.
That would be a win for the Democrats because the Northeast and Rust Belt typically vote more Democrat than Republican.
This has nothing to do with voter suppression. It has to do with reapportionment of seats and allocation of federal funds. If the Dems had any brains, they would allow this to happen.

Yeah - voter SUPPRESSION of NON-CITIZENS, aka illegal aliens, nation invaders. Screw the Posse Comitatus Act, and put the US Military on the border - let's bleed the DNC with lawsuits.

Guest host Katy Tur asked Perez shouldn't it matter who is a citizen of this country, in terms of representation, and who is not.SIMPLE LESSON (so there will be no need to say it again I hope) If you are in the US, either you are a citizen (majority) or you are not a citizen.
If you are not a citizen but here, you can be here legally and be protected, or you can be here illegally.
If you are here against US laws, YOU are the problem. We should not be paying for your support if you are here illegally. We are looking for you to return you to your homelands where you are a citizen under their laws.

thats how I see a lot of them.Yes, a lot Dems seem to be trying to make wrong, dumb decisions. That is not true of Dem leaders. The leaders know right and smart versus wrong, illegal or dumb. They mislead the dumb Dem voters against Republicans trying to do right so they (the Dem leaders) can get back into power.

Hey Tom
Let’s ask Mexico if they let their illegals vote.
Or any other country in the rest of the world.
