Johns Hopkins studies effects of DMT, including encounters with ‘autonomous beings’

WASHINGTON – It’s one of the most popular new hallucinogenic drugs being smoked by young people around the world, with many users reporting “spiritual encounters” with entities that sound a lot like demons.

And now, Johns Hopkins University is studying the alarming effects of DMT, or Dimethyltryptamine, asking volunteers who have taken the drug about encounters they may have had with “seemingly autonomous beings or entities.”

One researcher characterized DMT as a “spirit molecule.”

So bizarre are the effects that users have described crossing into another world and seeing “machine elves,” aliens or cartoon cats. One woman reported being swarmed by apparently alive Slinky toys.

The research team is headed by Roland Griffiths, a behavioral biologist with a history of studying psychedelic substances that produce “mystical-type and near-death experiences.”

I agree about a Ouija board, especially.

It even creeps out non-believers.

True. DMT and its derivatives have been around since the 60s. It’s a nasty drug.

Have any of you seen an alcoholic have the DTs (delerium tremens)? I worked in a hospital and saw it several times.

Once a guy was pointing at his feet and yelled, "It's my brother-in-law and he's smearing black paint on my legs! Get him away!"

Another guy said, "Help! I'm covered with little mouse-like dogs. Get them off me!"

Another guy was so freaked out by his DTs he was dangerous to nurses and orderlies. They tried to strap him into the bed and one of the orderlies ended up with a broken hand.

I wonder if this drug is produced in the body of the person with DTs.

The term "seeing pink elephants" is based on the DT experience.

+1 to what you posted.
Folks can yuk it up all they want, but there is a spiritual realm and mind altering drugs is one of the gateways to inviting that malevolent horde into your life.

Who knows how many have killed themselves because of it. Robin Williams comes to mind.

"Have any of you seen an alcoholic have the DTs (delerium tremens)?" No, but I've seen Delerium Tremens before - heard it's good. Complete with Pink Elephants. :)

It's not just pretty colors and funny hallucinations in your head, there is an intelligence outside of yourself there. I wouldn't be so dismissive. It's particularly obvious via so-called lucid dreaming, which basically is an attempt at taking control of your dreams, of being a conscious actor within them rather than a passive participant. Ask anyone who has spent time on this, they'll all tell you about the one you eventually encounter, outside of your ability to guide your dreams. This one guides you. Various psychoactive will bring you to the same situation, sometimes very rapidly. The more popular, better known forms of psychoactive are not quite so alarming, at least not to people who are unthreatened by apparent material reality falling away, people who don't have deeply repressed issues. LSD isn't likely to send you there, not in my exposure. Neither is psilocybin. Peyote might. DMT and others will and it seems immediate, little to no time to prepare or adjust. You'll come back a changed person and you might come back with "friends." I'm sure that sounds nuts to the determined materialist, particularly atheists. But, atheists are the most vulnerable ones, they're an empty vessel.

Yeah - now that folks are posting about it’s history I see.
I’m 100% ignorant of recreational drugs, except “weed” I guess and the recent “bath salts”.

Thought this would be newsworthy. :(

That’s a pretty amazing post.

I’ve always noted the correlation between Atheists and “Alien Encounters” as well. Seems like almost every close encounter is with an atheist or some believer in eastern mythology.

Same scenario with drugs - empty vessels.

Sirs?

I’ve been on Lisinopril (BP meds)for a couple of years which keeps my BP around 130 instead of 150-160.

It may do its job but also results in decreased libido without getting anymore graphic.

I can handle weird dreams but missing out on G-d’s gift to man (I’m 63 as is my gal of 37 years) makes me just not take it. I’d rather die. ;-)

Just a name for the alternative? Please?

Thanks in advance and is it OTC or prescription?

Charlie

On the same thing. Same side effects. As soon as I pass my DOT physical I am done with it.
