Please, Mr. School Shooter, stand still so I can throw a rock at you. Oops, missed. Well, just don’t shoot me until I can get within 16 inches of you to bop you with this mini bat.

Someone could get hurt using those bats. In the interest of the safety of the children, all teachers should be given these...

“felony
always carry a baseball glove and baseball with your bat!”
Always and make sure you actually use the bat and ball to show signs of wear. Makes hostile interactions less likely.

Is the school going to provide Batting Bullets lessons on campus or at firing ranges?

LOL How coincidental. I have one just like that. Also ball peen or claw hammers are useful for impromptu “construction” needs.

So you’d have to get within 20 inches of an active shooter to give him a tap with the bat.
Which is just inside max range of a semi-auto weapon. Oops.

This is laughable.
Why not just give all the teachers signs to hold up that say, "Don't Shoot"?
What in the world are they going to do with these miniature baseball bats? Hit a crazed shooter with them?
How many chances do they get to hit the shooter? Will they have scorekeeper to track all the teachers' at-bats and batting averages?
Are they going to get training in the use of the bats? Who does the training? The baseball coaches or the cops?
Here's my solution. First, replace the "Guns-Free Zone" signs with ones that announce, "Teachers Are Locked and Loaded".
Next, buy all the teachers and main staff members, handguns.
This summer, send all the teachers to an intense gun use and safety program. Then send them to the range to practice, practice, practice.
When they return to classes in the fall, they will be ready to deal with any loony bin who tries to harm their kids.

I don’t know about you, but when I go the bat rack before my turn at bat, I usually grab my trusty 16” weapon. Short but powerful! lol

It is disturbing to see this public manifestation of bat nuts hiding behind respect for the 79th Amendment ...
No snowflake shall be deprived of the right to defend himself against lethal force with a baseball bat.
I blame the NBA (National Bat Association) for this outrage. They have far too much influence in politics, in my humble opinion.

Funny story behind that scene from Raiders. The script actually called for Ford to fight the guy hand to hand. However, Ford, like almost everyone in the cast and crew filming in Tunisia, had come down with vicious food poisoning and simply lacked the energy to do the scene. So he ad libbed and the actor playing the swordsman rolled with it. Turned out to be one of the most memorable scenes from the movie.

Sounds like tons of liability for the school district:
1) The school district is acknowledging a risk to the safety of staff and students.
2) The school district determined that the threat level is such that weapons must be distributed.
3) The school district has elected to not provide these weapons to trained professionals, but assigned responsibility of addressing violent threats / violent conditions to staff (teachers, librarians, office staff, etc.).
4) The school district has selected a weapon that cannot adequately defend against a gun, or person of large physical stature and/or fighting skills. Further the designated weapon requires staff to engage in close contact, placing staff a higher risk.
I’m hardly the brightest bulb, but rather than 16” mini-bats randomly handed out and likely to be lost in the bottom of a desk drawers.... Have a FORMAL PLAN where weapons (firearms and non-lethal) are secure and accessible by trained staff. Have the defensive team run threat scenario drills routinely. Pay for all training costs for the defensive team and indemnify them from liability.

Assault bat ... it’s black and scary. If it’s not, they’ll have to paint the tip bright orange.

I see the logic of this decision clearly.
LETS BRING A LITTLE STICK TO A GUN FIGHT.
Yes; that will intimidate and scare off the KILLER with the pistol or the rifle.
