New York Lawyer Burns Himself To Death In Protest (against Fossil Fuels)

A prominent New York lawyer has died after setting himself on fire in Brooklyn's Prospect Park to protest against the use of fossil fuels.

David Buckel, 60, had been well-known for his work on behalf of the LGBT community, as well as with environmental groups.

A suicide note near the lawyer's remains said he had immolated himself using fossil fuel to symbolize the damage humans are doing to the Earth.

Buckel had also reportedly sent the note to multiple news outlets, including The New York Times, warning that people were dying early deaths as a result of breathing in bad air.

“Pollution ravages our planet, oozing inhabitability via air, soil, water and weather,” Buckel wrote in his email to the Times.

“Most humans on the planet now breathe air made unhealthy by fossil fuels, and many die early deaths as a result—my early death by fossil fuel reflects what we are doing to ourselves.”

I wonder if he thought about how much co2 and pollutants he was releasing into the atmosphere by the fire he started.

Not here to see the irony of the increase in his carbon footprint.

Someone I’ve never heard of before offs himself. Normally the media doesn’t cover suicides much since the reasoning is they don’t want to glamorize and encourage it. Ah but for a leftist cause then of course the rules don’t apply.

Anything new here that’s not in the other 10+ threads about this guy?

I do agree with him that air pollution causes a lot of premature deaths and is way a bigger problem than climate change. He probably would have been better off using his skills to help fight for cleaning the air than taking his life the way he did.

If it were a “protest suicide”, why would he burn himself, alone, in the middle of the night, without cameras?

Great way for a murderer to cover his tracks.

P.S. This guy had plenty of enemies. He was a lawyer for pedos/LAMDA.

“He probably would have been better off using his skills to help fight for cleaning the air than taking his life the way he did.”

Mentally ill drama queen. He thought he was so important that his death, in a spectacular way, would make the world come to its senses and immediately stop using “fossil” fuels. Given that world view, that he saw himself as a modern Jesus, who would give his life that man could live, he really had no choice.

Oil is found at depths as far down as five miles. As there were never dinosaurs buried that deep and given that oil only goes up in the strata, like a bubble in water, there must be other mechanisms producing it than dead dinosaurs. Oil wells that were played out in the ‘40’s are producing again, so we obviously don’t understand where oil comes from.

As for global warming, anytime something takes on the status of a cult it is unlikely to be scientifically valid, especially when the cult members attack actual scientists who are not believers.

I’ll bet that if we knew more about this guy that he would have seemed crazy enough to be locked up for his own safety years ago. I blame those around him for his death, as nobody had the guts to report him to people who could have taken actions to save him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a freezer full of body parts or something equally crazy. This self emollition is only the public crazy thing that he did. There will be plenty of less well known things; count on it.

It takes hours for a body to burn, so this would have had to have been started at midnight.
