GOP Rep. Charlie Dent will leave Congress within weeks, potentially setting up special election

Rep. Charlie Dent (Pa.), a frequent critic of President Trump and a leader of the GOP’s moderate bloc in the House, said Tuesday that he will resign from Congress within weeks. His decision could set up a costly special election if the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania orders one.

Dent had already announced his retirement from Congress in September, citing personal reasons for the decision while also lamenting the marginalization of the “governing wing” of the Republican Party as the GOP has moved further to the right.

He said in a statement released Tuesday morning that he will leave “in the coming weeks.” He did not offer a reason for his decision to depart now rather than finish his term.

Can’t they just finish out their terms?

Not necessarily a “good thing.” If these guys retire before finishing their stint, then someone they want can be placed in the seat, upon which this someone will become essentially the “incumbent.” Thus any competition for the seat within the party will be greatly handicapped in the primary against gaining the party nomination, as well as hurting the other party’s nominee in the regular election.

Drink a cup of castor oil and that will cure the moderate block.

His leaving now is designed to turn the seat over to democrats. He knows angry Dems will turn out. That will give a democrat incumbency in November. Dent is a slime.

Notice that most of those congresscritters announcing their resignations are anti-Trumpers? Is that not a good thing?

So this guy believes that the Republican Party has gone too far to the right. Sums it up with that statement why he he is resigning. Yea ,the party is over for these RINOS. The Republican Party has a chance to have strong Conservative candidates run for the many vacancies coming up... Hopefully the RNC is up to the task.

FOXNews anchors are all liberals...

OR children of liberal elites. (anchors - not 'opinion/editorial types - they're still conservative). The liberal elites at FOX report the same crap every other liberal 'news' show reports from CNN to MSNBC.

I can hardly watch FOX anymore. That said - it's probably the reason this story isn't being covered. A few short pieces about Republicans (like Flake) who are anti-Trump made the news - but the vast majority of the resignations are NOT of interest to liberal elites so the stories don't show up on FOX either.

It appears Chris Wallace thinks the Country has the same 'news' interest as people living in Washington DC and New York City. What a fool. Chris Wallace is becoming such a disappointment. He's destroying the channel so the guests at his dinners are more interesting and young.

Hey Charlie Dent. Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. Good riddance to another RINO.

Big-spender Charlie is on several Appropriations subcommittees. He has a lot more blame for the disastrous continuing resolution than most RINOs who just voted for it.
