A Tennessee Air National Guard colonel was demoted and promptly retired after a video that shows him leading a re-enlistment ceremony where one member recites her oath using a dinosaur puppet garnered millions of views online.

In the video, which was posted Saturday to an unofficial Air Force Facebook group, an unidentified colonel can be seen leading the re-enlistment ceremony for Master Sgt. Robin Brown, who delivers her oath while wearing a dinosaur puppet on her hand and has the puppet mouth the words as she reads them aloud.

According to a statement from Army Maj. Gen. Terry Haston, posted to the Tennessee National Guard official Facebook page, the colonel administering the oath immediately retired after being demoted.

It was probably all in fun, kind of an inside joke.

But a really, really bad call.

Beatings accomplish things 10,000 bureaucrats can’t. Time to administer old school reforms.

I only did one tour in the military, but I did have the opportunity to see a number of reenlistment events over the course of my life.

They were uniformly respectful. There was gravity and tradition associated with them. People were often dressed up for it, and it was a good thing.

This is shameful. It is disrespectful. And it reeks of Leftism, which has to destroy all forms of history and tradition to achieve its goals.

Shameful. This kind of thing depresses me.

I’ve actually seen many reenlistments in unexpected places or situations. I dragged my Skipper to the top of the mast for mine once. Have seen a few underwater in SCUBA gear, on mountain tops, in aircraft, etc. I reenlisted once on the USS Arizona, my personal favorite. Regardless of the place, situation, uniform, whatever, it was all business and at attention during the oath. This Master Sargent obviously didn’t take the oath very seriously.

I have taken four re-enlistments in my military career, always in the presence of my beloved flag that I might have died for. It is a solemn, serious ceremony, where one pledges their allegiance to the Constitution and to defend the Country to their last full measure. Not a something to take lightly.

Court martial each of them for conduct unbecoming, insubordination, disrespect, etc.

When did dignity die? For me, I had an inkling when thousands of Britons made a stuffed-animal mountain outside Buckingham Palace to mark the passing of a princess. That Slick Willie the Sink emperor was in power then is so fitting.

It made me angry to see it.

There is plenty about the military to gripe about. It can be mindlessly, bureaucratically, stupid, it can be ignorant, it can be wasteful, it can be illogical...it can be any number of things.

But the things about the military that outweigh those things are the honor of your pride in striving to complete a mission or task, being a key part of a larger team, the excellent leaders you encounter above you, and the superlative people who serve with you and under you...the people you serve with, your country, and...the traditions.

The traditions are meaningful, and they connect you to every person who wore that uniform before you, the traditions are living links to history and the past. The uniforms, the salute, the taps and colors, even (or especially) the funerals are all living expressions of those traditions. They mean something.

And these people just crap all over it and treat it with less respect than a graduation ceremony for 2nd grade kids.

It isn’t supposed to be FUN or WHIMSICAL. It is supposed to be a solemn commitment to your country, your service, and yourself.

You know all this, as do most who have served.

Boy, the more I think about it the more disgusted I am. See, to LEFTISTS, only the RUBES, the WEAK MINDED, people INCAPABLE of surviving in the civilian world, and the EASILY LED think the traditions are important.

So they have to tear them down, remove the meaning behind them, trivialize them, and deconstruct those traditions.

They have to do that, because they can’t stand something GREATER and more lasting than them, so they have to destroy them.

And it is why Leftists HATE the military.

it’s the Air Force. you should not expect anything but idiotic out of that organization. The higher up are on pissed because it was a male delivering the oath.

As one who has taken enlistment and commissioning oaths, I am pleased that the senior officer present takes this hit. Should it have been so big a slam? I guess he should have thought about it first.
