It is indeed, as supported by Supreme Court decision, legal for LEOs to lie to “targets” or potential targets. It happens all the time and is a very common technique.
If Trump isn’t under investigation, then the SC office needs to close down.
The only reason there has ever been a need for an outside counsel to investigate anyone in the Executive Branch is because a counsel cannot effectively investigate his or her superior.
Shut. It. Down.
That’s why he handed it off to the NY office. Keep his dirty hands clean.
The Feebs are well known for repeatedly telling people...you’re not a suspect...you’re not a person of interest...you’re not a target...and then ..you have the right to remain silent.

Actions speak louder than words...and the actions of Mueller & Rosenstein speak volumes of anti-Trump activity.

Meaningless. Rosenstein isn’t required to be truthful with the President regarding this, and he could easily be using weasel words: saying the President isn’t a “target” does not mean the President isn’t the “subject” of the investigation. Make no mistake, the endgame is the same in either case—they’re hoping to prolong it at least until after midterms on the possibility that they can get a new D majority in the House to draft articles of impeachment.
The target is Trump. Not to prosecute him, but to taint him in the public eye.

I just got a Fox News alert on my phone saying Rosenstein told the president he is not the target of the Cohen investigation.

Anybody who has watched a few episodes of Law And Order knows it’s legal for any cop, including the FBI, to lie to anyone when doing an investigation. You can’t lie to the FBI, but they can lie to you.
I agree. What other purpose COULD there be? Sounds like fake news to me. I’m sick of it all.
