There are no “other” interpretations of the Koran allowed by its very nature.
At the end of the day, the question is one of where their loyalty lies.

Their foundations require nothing less, unless they need to lie in order to advance their objective.
There is NO compromise.

I do have Muslim friends. They do not subscribe to the Islamist views.
Some in Egypt and others in Syria. Neither are a threat to other religions. They understand what political Islam is.
The interesting part, the religious makeup in Syria is surprising and it is changing. Some in the past said they were Muslim but did not practice it. Now a portion of them are admitting the reality.
Many more Christians than most expect. A number of sects of them. It is also true in Iraq. In Iraq the Muslims are less “understanding” and tolerant of Christians, Ezidi’s and atheists.
There are very few Jews in Iraq or Syria. Some, but few.
