West Valley, Utah (CNN)Mitt Romney said Saturday that he could not yet commit to supporting Donald Trump's 2020 re-election campaign, making it clear that he intends to stake his claim as an independent voice for Utah.
"I will make that decision down the road," Romney, who is running for US Senate, said in an interview with CNN as he waited for his turn to speak at the Utah GOP convention where he was vying for his party's nomination. "As a person of political experience, if I endorse someone, I'll want to know what's in it for Utah and what help would he provide for us on key priorities in Utah."
"So I'm not a cheap date," he said.

Romney gives never-Trumpers a bad name. No, seriously, there are some legitimate conservatives who have a problem with Trump morally. I’ve argued against liberal Republican primary candidates that it’s better to lose one race than to lose the Republican party, so I can’t blast never-Trumpers for that same notion, even though I believe they are DEAD WRONG.
But Romney is a never-Cruz* never-Trumper. That to me spells never-Conservative.
(*His tirade against Trump ended Cruz’ candidacy; he gave Cruz the negatives of being establishment while denying Cruz any positives. Clearly, Romney was a Kasich guy, long after Kasich had become a sick joke.)
My hope is Kennedy (conservative) can beat this loser and send him back to Taxachussetts, where he can get “good” health care in his retirement.
