My favorite police joke: A man calls the cop shop to report his garage is being burgled. The dispatcher asks if there is any serious injury or threat involved. When he replies no, she firmly but politely explains that the police are occupied with more serious emergencies and it might be a couple of hours or more before they can get to him.

So, 15 minutes he calls back to cancel the call. The dispatcher is a little annoyed about taking a call so soon and asks him what happened.

"Well," says the garage owner, "when I went out to confront the perp, he pulled out a gun and fired at me. I returned fire and perforated the perp. No emergency, he'd good an dead and I have a tarp over the body. Just send someone to pick it up when you get to it."

Within five minutes, four squad cars are there.

You really cannot rely on the police to prevent crime unless they are physically present at your location. Otherwise, they are only there to pick up the pieces, which is one of the principle arguments for the 2nd amendment.

That being said, if you use a firearm to defend yourself, you had better call the police, otherwise the question will arise as to your guilt. As far as talking to the police, it’s always better to say little or nothing until you get legal counsel and are able to choose your words wisely.

As far as calling the police if you are a witness and uninvolved in a crime, that’s your call. In some cases, you might be subject to reprisals from the criminal. In other cases, you could unwittingly become a suspect if the officer is intent on finding a suspect.

As we have seen with respect to Flynn and the FBI, unscrupulous police departments can engage in entrapment. This isn’t Mayberry RFD.

“I’m OK with this. “

Really?

So,in a parking lot, you put your baby in the back seat and as you are getting in the front seat someone blitz attacks you and drives off in the car, with the baby inside.

How would YOU handle it?

.

In a few months, this will be the same group of folks complaining on media outlets that “the cops don’t care about us”.

Huh?

1. This is a story about people who decide ON THEIR OWN to avoid calling the police. I don't give a damn what they do or don't do.

2. I would prefer to handle the situation you described by lighting the guy up as soon as he attacked me.

“It is the next step in the glamorization of criminals.”

Or, the first step in Citizen enforcement.

It’s RARE that a gun owner needs the police.

For anything.

3. How would YOU handle that situation if you were an hour away from the nearest town?

No; they also publicly disavow being armed.

I view this as chlorine for the gene pool.

Exactly. No need calling the cops if anyone with a different story than mine is gonna jam up the works.

Well, if you are a parent or friend of an autistic or mentally ill adult child, don’t call the police. There have many cases reported where the ill person was threatening to kill themselves so their loved ones called the police.

The police arrive, demand they put their hands up, and then shoot them when they don’t follow orders.

I don’t see a problem. I would say the police would then have better response times for pro-police citizens but at my house they can take their time coming to collect the perp’s body.

There is an opportunity here. Wal-Mart could start stocking body bags.

Cool, disband the cops in those neighborhoods and bank the savings in salaries and pensions. It’s win-win. Well, maybe not a win for both sides. One side gets mugged, raped, and murdered and the chance to live in fear for the rest of their lives. But the other side saves a bundle so at least there’s that!
