Florida Kid Posts Dumb Racist Prom Invite, World Ends
The Revolutionary Act ^ | 04/24/18

Posted on 04/24/2018 9:31:46 AM PDT by Liberty7732

So this 18-year-old Florida high school student invites his girlfriend to the prom with a sign that actually is pretty racist and seriously stupid.

Naturally, the full force of school authority lept into action with robocalls of assurances that counseling would be available and disciplinary actions, while the local NAACP wants to go into the school to teach the right way to think about race relations.

The large sign the Riverview High School student was holding in the picture said: “If I was black, I’d be picking cotton, but I’m white, so I’m picking u 4 prom.” So yes, unlike what may have been a manufactured racism incident with the two black guys at the Philadelphia Starbucks, this is obviously a racist sign.

Interestingly, the boy’s girlfriend seemed to like the proposal as she gave it a pair of heart-eyed emojis on her Snapchat account. So two racist kids, or two dumb kids, or maybe two kids whose amygdala’s were running way ahead of their pre-frontal cortex’s. (Translation: their emotions ran away from their good sense.)

The proper response would seem to be that some wiser people in the boy’s and girl’s lives talk to them and explain how that really is offensive to black people and a lot of others, and it was just wrong. Explain to them that cotton-picking is a direct reference to the days of slavery and post-slavery South and saying that if he was black he would be doing that now suggests blacks remain enslaved.

But of course that is not the era in which we live. The entire high school structure lept into action to protect delicate feelings of the other students. Government had to step in and correct wrong thinking and speaking — even though it did not happen on school property. The local NAACP wants to go into the school with corrective teaching and urged the district to take a day like Starbucks did recently to ensure people think about race relations properly.

A robocall was sent to Riverview parents first thing Monday morning, alerting them to the traumatizing sign and letting parents and students know that guidance counselors and administrators were available to help students deal with the ordeal.

The robocall by Riverview acting principal Kathy Wilks assured parents that the post “was racial in nature and the administration became aware of it last night…”Many who saw the post are understandably upset with its contents as well as the subsequent commentary to the post. Riverview High School absolutely does not condone or support the message conveyed in this post.”

Because there was some confusion on that point?

The robocall went on: “We are focused on ensuring that Riverview High School provides a safe and secure environment for all of our students and that all students feel welcome and understand the value that they all bring to our school community. Our guidance counselors and administrators are available for any student who wishes to speak to someone regarding the issue. Riverview High School has a wonderful student population and we know our school will use this incident as an opportunity to have productive conversations about respect for one another.”

This mobilization of a large high school’s resources because a kid said something racist to his girlfriend would seem like an overreaction, but it is what we’ve come to expect — particularly in the era of social media.

But there is more.

School district spokeswoman Tracey Beeker said the school district is talking with local and national civic organizations to determine the best opportunities for “creating a conversation about racial relations.”

Because we have not been having a conversation? The district released a full statement on the sign.

“Although this message is one student’s opinion, we take the matter of racial relations and school safety seriously, and we look forward to working with our students and these outside groups to have a meaningful and informative dialogue and expanded curriculum related to this important national topic,” the statement reads.

Further, Remember that the American left must ensure there is at least the appearance that America is deeply racist because that is part of their manipulative power structure to ensure division and the shockingly high percentage of black Americans voting Democrat.

This point was inadvertently made clear by one of the school’s gun control activists that emerged after Parkland.

The student activist told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune that everyone he had talked to at school was “disgusted” with the sign. Reasonable enough. But then this:

“But I think it is actually important that this issue occurred on some level…It shows that racism is still alive and well in our society, and it shows that racism is still alive in my generation and it is something that we as the youth will have to continue to fight against.”

See, it’s important to ensure racial division remains at the forefront. It’s doubtful that this student is thinking this way. He’s simply a young guy replying to the situation with what he has imbibed. His motives do not need to be questioned so much as those who have been training generations now to think and act in this nationally destructive way.

When I read things like this, I become quite discouraged. In years gone by, this would be great parody.

But today, it isn't. Unbelievable.

You can also bet that not a single, solitary one of them would understand that “bloody shirt” reference, either.

When real hard times come, this segment of people are going to be a real drain.

Where we’ve gotten to, is that it is a punishable offense to offend certain people (but only CERTAIN people). The penalty can range from reprimand, to being fired and made unemployable, to being a target for violence.

But, only CERTAIN people have the right to punish others for offending them. If you are a white, straight, Christian male, then you are out of luck. People can produce “art” like “Piss Christ”, have it be funded by your tax dollars, and if you dare to complain, then YOU will b labeled a “hater”.

When I was a little baby,
My Mama would rock me in the cradle
In them there, ol’ cotton fields at home
When I was a little baby,
My Mama would rock me in the cradle
In them there, ol’ cotton fields at home

Oh when them cotton balls bet rotten
You can’t pick very much cotton
In them there, ol’ cotton fields at home
It was down in Louisiana,
Just a mile from Texarkana
In them there ol’ cotton fields at home.

Now it may sound very funny,
But you didn’t make very much money,
In them there, ol’ cotton fields at home
Yes it might sound very funny,
But you didn’t make very much money,
In them there, ol’ cotton fields at home

Oh when them cotton balls bet rotten
You can’t pick very much cotton
In them there, ol’ cotton fields at home
It was down in Louisiana,
Just a mile from Texarkana
In them there ol’ cotton fields at home.

I was over in Arkansas,
When the sheriff asked me
“What did you come here for ?”
In them there, ol’ cotton fields at home
Yes I was over in Arkansas,
When the sheriff asked me
“What did you come here for ?”
In them there, ol’ cotton fields at home

Oh when them cotton balls bet rotten
You can’t pick very much cotton
In them there, ol’ cotton fields at home
It was down in Louisiana,
Just a mile from Texarkana
In them there ol’ cotton fields at home.

A new radio station came on the air in Raleigh and played this song continuously for several days.

What's wrong with black folk picking cotton?

White American 11 year old coal miners in 1908, forty-three years after slavery was abolished.

Explain to them that cotton-picking is a direct reference to the days of slavery and post-slavery South and saying that if he was black he would be doing that now suggests blacks remain enslaved.

This wasn't an act of innocence or ignorance.

This was defiance.

This kid knew exactly what he was doing and that doing it would provoke the exact reaction that it did.

It's the entirely predictable backlash to the "everything is racist!" mentality that rules society. Kids are getting sick of it. "You wanna see racist? I'll show you racist!"

Most people in this country have not experienced real hardship or persecution. This is why everything is labeled a racist crisis and why we have sjws.

>> My mom was one. Half the white people in cotton country who were alive in the 1930s and 1940s picked cotton <<

My mom too. She said that during the 1920’s, the public schools in her country closed for a couple of weeks every September, so that all the kids — white and black — could pick cotton.

(And they were usually joined by any parents and other able-bodied adults who didn’t have regular employment.)
