Opium Poppy
A distinct difference in the center but almost nobody would catch it.
There’s a Poppy Harlow on CNN or MSNBC or some left show. Is she living up to her name and “high” all the time? She sounds like it
If we grow local opium then it will cut Mexican and Chinese imports to shreds. Darned shame someone stole my idea.
Thank you for the Eric Burdon and War refernce. What a great song that is.
$160K income off one acre/year is not living like the Escobar’s drug money.
Yeah, and that’s gross, not net income. Growing, harvesting, processing and (perhaps) distribution eats into that amount. For a business, I’d say 1 acre is insufficient. For personal consumption it’s probably more than enough.
The latex that many plants produce upon injury is a defense mechanism designed to kill. Latex rubber is designed to gum up the mouth parts of insects. The opium latex is meant to kill in other ways, and it does.
Gosh, I hope they post Prop. 65 stickers on these flowers /s
Interesting, thank you for posting that!
You are contradicting yourself.
In the binominal nomenclature of Linnaeus, the first part is the generic name (i.e., the name of the Genus), and the second part is the specific name (i.e., the name of the Species).
Hence: Homo sapiens is one species, and Homo erectus is a different species.
The same applies here with the poppy species you cite.
Regards,
So do I. Had a nice Drew Estates Isla del Sol this evening.
Now that pot is legal, on to the next medicinal frontier!
exactly- the same argument could be made for opium- it has many legitimate medical uses- so it should be legal
Actually, the seeds of opium poppies are not regulated by the law.
It is the growing of the plant that is illegal, not possession of the seeds.
And you can totally buy those seeds online, legally.
I know this due to my research on them for survivalist purposes. After the apocalypse, it will be a valuable medicine.
You’re a genus!
I have heard that it’s not the growing of the plant that’s illegal but the slicing of the ovary to make the latex flow that’s illegal.
There are a lot of urban rumors out there. Good luck getting a variety that actually has a strong narcotic content.
“They were organically grown.”
That’s the important thing.

If Calif. is split in just two, Monterrey is Northern Calif.

Monterey County is not northern California.
I beg to differ! It is only 60 miles south of San Jose! On the Pacific Coast, the demarkation between the north and south is the tunnel through the coastal hills south of Solvang. San Luis Obispo is considered the Central Coast. SLO is nearly 100 miles south of Monterey.

Where is Monterey then?

I’ve lived in California my whole life, in Southern (LA area), Northern (Bay area) and Central California (Monterey Bay Area). So I’ve got all perspectives.
Monterey is central. Part of what’s called Central Coast. All of the central coast is actually geographically in the southern half of the state.
The northern border of CA is the 42nd parallel. The most southern latitude is 32° 30’ (32.5). That’s 9.5 degree total of latitude.
The middle is 37.25.
Monterey is in the southern half at 36.6.
If you know these cities, Pescadero, Gustine and North Fork are close to the latitudinal midline.
The Bay Area is of course called Northern California, even though it’s really right about in the middle. San Jose to me is the beginning of a Northern California. Santa Cruz and lower begins Central coast. Some say that goes all the way down to and includes Ventura county. I’m ok with considering Ventura SoCal, but that’s another discussion.
As for Solvang and the tunnel, I never ever heard that as the demarcation line of north/south. Solvang is at about 34.6 latitude. If that is halfway, it’s strange math because rather than being 50% of the distance from bottom to top it’s about 22% of it. That would make Northern California be comprised of 78% of California, latitude-wise.
It all depends on where your water comes from.
If it comes from the Owens Valley, you are in S. Calif.
“Monterey is central. Part of whats called Central Coast.”
I’ve had a home in Carmel for 25 years, and I can tell you it is NOT the Central Coast. The Central Coast is from San Luis Obispo down through Santa Maria and all the way down to Vandenburg. I also went to school at Cal Poly in SLO and they do consider that area the Central Coast.
As for the Solvang tunnel when you drive through it the land features along with the people change. It’s like you’re in SoCal now as you roll into Santa Barbara. Latitude has nothing to do with it.
