There is nothing in the chemistry of this product that should cause a rational person to fear it.

Correct. If reasonable caution is use in handling it. Note: it is one of the safest chemicals in the Ag industry. Others? Headshake. I can give you examples of those. Treatment on my foundation seed this year was so bad that just the dust off the seed made my hands tingle. It had a systemic insecticide in it and smelled like acetone. I decided that we will never apply a systemic insecticide to wheat seed. We produce bulk certified seed and clean and treat the product right on our farm. Small scale local operation, the regulation and crap is killing us. Idiots run the regulatory stuff. It is a wonder the effect of that has not destroyed the industry. (note, the local inspector is a great guy, I have no problem with him. He grew up in the business.)

[[You eat cancer causing chemicals in food every single day. There are trace amounts of benzene in the air you breathe, the water you drink and in the roasted meats you eat. And benzene is a hell of a lot more toxic than glyphosate. Do you eat potatoes? If so, you probably don’t realize you’re eating solanine and arsenic. Don’t ever eat any lettuce, carrots or grapes because they contain caffeic acid. Avoid nuts (aflatoxin), bread (acetaldehyde, acrylamide), mushrooms (hydrazine), orange juice (limonene) and so on. These are all chemicals that are known to cause cancer.]]

Exactly- so how are they going to prove that this man’s cancer is a direct result of roundup? He could have gotten cancer from any one of, or multiple things on your list-I’m sorry the man got cancer- but he can’t know for sure what caused him to get cancer- Even vegan and organic eaters and chemical-phobes get cancer all the time- just like even non smokers who never are around second hand smoke get emphysema and copd and lung cancer

Anyone with any basic knowledge of science knows that Round Up is only dangerous to plants.
This scare mongering is ridiculous .

So you are my BT corn buddy? Good seed.

Didn't the Gypsy Moth bring us that countermeasure?

People fear glyphosate because they don't know what it is.

Good post, and, most people don't know what sodium chloride is. We live in a science-illiterate world.

“By your standards, such as they are, your food and water supplies have been, and always will be, polluted. How do you manage to sleep at night?”

Love the two personal attacks. Says it all.

“I’M AN OLD MAN! GO FIND SOMEBODY ELSE TO CALL LIAR!”

Didn’t call you a liar. Asked for you to back up your claims.

You chose not to. Perfectly fine.

I will choose to put your claim in the category of personal belief.

True that. Makes you think some of these people wish to go back to the good old days when we used 2,4,5-T, 2,4-D and those wonderful triazine herbicides. Those were so much less toxic and healthier for us. LOL.

I hear ya about the regulation. I used to work on the regulatory side and it made me crazy working with government know-nothings with no industry experience whatsoever. Many of them seemed to enjoy making things difficult.

“Without roundup ready seed you can’t afford to plant.

Result of crony capitalism.

They can't. I feel for this guy, though. He's dying and will leave a young family behind. Just awful. My guess is he is trying to provide for them in his abscence and allowed some lawyer to make him promises he won't be able to keep.

Right. You appear to be very frightened of things you don’t understand. That’s no way to go through life, son. Some knowledge of basic chemistry would allow you to sleep better at night. Not a personal attack. Just an observation based on your posts.

>>Roundup and most toxic ag chemicals are designed to decompose quickly under sunlight.<<

I know that Roundup is neutralized when it contacts soil. I’m not sure what neutralizes it when it’s on the surface of Roundup resistant soybean or corn, however. Sunlight?

Then again, people don’t eat corn or soybean leaves, although livestock eats corn silage...interesting issue, but one that I’d bet Monsanto figured out long, long, ago.

Didn't used to be that way. Social justice appears to be more important these days.

Yes, it is often insane.

And think about it, it drives the process of export of our farm products.

The whole farm subsidy thing is perverted. And a lot of the "big" farm bill is food stamp program. Few in the public realize it.

The whole farm insurance program is intermingled with the regulatory beast in DC.

A friend told me this: "Farming is easy, if your pencil is your plow and the nearest farm is 1,000 miles away."

He was correct.

“Some knowledge of basic chemistry would allow you to sleep better at night. Not a personal attack.”

Likewise, some knowledge of health and the microbiome of the human body would allow you to see a bigger picture than chemistry alone.

Not a personal attack. Just an observation based on your posts.

>>I use roundup a lot...is there an alternative?<<

You don’t need an alternative. This is a lawsuit, not science.

That said, if you use a lot of it, here’s a tip. The active ingredient is glyphosate. You can buy 2.5 gallon jugs of Buccaneer, which is just glyphosate, at a farm supply outlet for about $45. I mix it at 2 oz/gallon of water.

2 1/2 gallons is 320 oz, so I get 160 gallons of spray out of that $45. Do a similar Roundup calculation and see how much you can save. It’s a lot, because Roundup is extremely expensive.

I use a 4-gallon backpack sprayer for keeping weeds down around the house, in the driveway, even down the town road edges for a bit, and anywhere else weeds get out of control, so I use a fair amount. That jug lasts me a couple of summers.

"Farming is easy, if your pencil is your plow and the nearest farm is 1,000 miles away."

Funny but true.....Reminds me of the old joke: In the Department of Agriculture one day, a bureaucrat in the agency noticed a co-worker with a long face. He inquired, “Why the long face?” His co-worker said, “My farmer died.”

I used to deal with the USDA (and FDA) on a daily basis. What a disorganized organization. It's no wonder the farm program is such a mess.

My father in law lies in a grave at West Point due to Agent Orange. Round up is a watered down Agent orange. Make sure you store gallons of round up in your home in a poor ventilated area.
