Besides the obvious reason as to why this is a daft idea, there are others.

For example, my sister’s fiance recently passed his HGV license. It cost him an arm and a leg (not far off £2,000 all in I believe).

He had to work 2 jobs to save up to do this, but yeah. Why not just give these courses away free to people who haven’t contributed a bean?

This uneven and downright unfair treatment of taxpayers throughout the west will have dire consequences. I’m still unsure as to whom will reap the whirlwind though.

Back fifteen years ago in Germany, there were more than enough truck-drivers around. My wife has to deal with freight forwarders, and they all cite manpower shortages of long-haul truckers in Germany as a problem, and shipments are being delayed because there’s just not enough folks on the road.

If this state-sponsorship deal was even-handed....going to Germans on welfare status as well, then it wouldn’t bother me.

Yes. I am sure they don’t have native Germans who see this and say “Hey! I need a job...what about ME?”
