US has 'complete confidence' in probe conclusion that Russian missile downed MH17

The U.S. is affirming new findings from investigators linking the 2014 downing of a Malaysia Airlines passenger plane to the Russian military.

The State Department said Thursday that it has "complete confidence" in the Dutch-led probe that determined Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 had been shot down using a missile launcher from a Russian anti-aircraft brigade.

Investigators announced findings from the long-running probe on Thursday, nearly four years after the plane carrying 298 passengers from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, went down over Crimea, a Ukrainian territory annexed by Russia.

"We recall the UN Security Council’s demand that 'those responsible … be held to account and that all States cooperate fully with efforts to establish accountability,'" State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement.

"It is time for Russia to cease its lies and account for its role in the shoot down."

It’s referring to the An-26 they had shot down just days earlier.

I still disagree. Perhaps you should read the English translation in this screenshot, which says they "just" shot down the aircraft. Again, this communication is dated 17-7-14, the same day as the shootdown.

That’s what I remember. And also that the plane was in a no fly zone.

Well here come the Globalists warmongers again trying to start a war with Russia based on a lie. Everyone knows it was the Ukraine that would gain from this and Russia would lose from it. 2014 was when Ukraine was trying to get the U.S. in a war with Russia.

Well here they come again These are the same clowns that said President Trump works for Putin and stole the election in 2016.

It’s all lies. It’s all they ever do is lie, lie and lie.

Retired intelligence professionals say in Twitter that Obama knew all this the week after it happened, but chose to do nothing and keep his knowledge secret.

Russia is rejecting the claim by the Netherlands and Australia that it is legally responsible for the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over war-ravaged eastern Ukraine nearly four years ago, killing all 298 people on board.

The accusations came a day after international investigators announced that the missile system that brought down the plane was whisked into Ukraine from a Russian military unit. Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok said “the government is now taking the next step by formally holding Russia accountable.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, rejected the accusations. He said Friday that Russia has been barred from the investigation and thus can't trust its results. He also charged that Ukraine contributed to the tragedy by failing to ban civilian air traffic over the war zone.

Social media is an extremely poor place to go looking for 'proof' of anything, its second or third hand hearsay at best and deliberate misinformation at worst.

Anyone could have seen or heard about the plane going down over the war zone and posted about it on social media.

Just like what happened when American navy shot down the Iranian civil airliner.

Except the USN stepped up and took responsibility once it was clear what happened. Like the Ukraine shoot down, there was active shooting going down during the incident. The Vincennes was actively engaging Iranian Gun Boats during the missile shot. I have a couple friends who were on Vincennes and in CIC when the incident happened. Initially jubilant, having sank and destroyed multiple Iranian Gun Boats and shot down an Iranian "F-14", they were crushed when it became clear what happened and how badly a couple watch standers screwed up.

Fog of war sucks, and flying a passenger jet into an active combat zone is insanity. Still, Russia should step up and take responsibility, pay the families and hold appropriate people accountable.

I understand your point although I think you overstated it.

And why were the posts scrubbed after it was revealed the aircraft was civilian?

A joint investigation between Bellingcat, The Insider, and McClatchy DC Bureau has conclusively identified another key person of interest in the ongoing investigation of the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 (MH17). The person known as ’Andrey Ivanovich’, a.k.a. call sign ‘Orion’, is in fact a high-ranking Russian GRU officer named Oleg Vladimirovich Ivannikov.

Bellingcat is a website founded by the British citizen journalist Eliot Higgins. Bellingcat publishes the findings of citizen journalist investigations into war and the criminal underground.

Basically a bunch on Internet keyboard warriors. Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet.

“Russia should step up and take responsibility”

How about those who directed the plane to flyover an active war zone? Those passengers never would have died that didn’t happen. Now that’s criminal.

How about those who...

SOVIET propagandists during the cold war were trained in a tactic that their western interlocutors nicknamed “whataboutism”. Any criticism of the Soviet Union (Afghanistan, martial law in Poland, imprisonment of dissidents, censorship) was met with a “What about...” (apartheid South Africa, jailed trade-unionists, the Contras in Nicaragua, and so forth).

That is typical victim blaming. Planes fly over these kinds of conflict zones all the time. Airspace was closed below 30,000 feet, but open above it as you need a really big rocket to reach that height and it is assumed only state actors have these and don't go shooting down civilian aircrafts.

Part of this attack is the reputation of Malaysia Airlines, but hundreds of planes chose to flew over this area during the week before the shooting, with the most frequent flyer being Aeroflot. Malaysian Airlines was only the 5th most frequent behind such reputable airline like Lufthansa.

About the Iran civil airliner shotdown, America has never accepted third party investigation.
American government officially blamed the shotdown on a psychological phenomenon called “scenario fulfillment”.....
