the police would tell the business that it is a civil matter and the market will have to hire private security to handle it, then the business owner is open to lawsuits and liabilities I know because they do it all the time, the Police are absolutely worthless when it comes to public protection and crime prevention, unless there is a major crime involved or something that generates revenue like drug busts or traffic tickets that inadvertantly results in public protection

As much as some would like to, it can carry an assault charge in a lot of places. Now had someone been injured “tripping” over one, it could bring big bucks law suits against Publix. But looks like it was a one and done since they sort of caved in to the “enormous” pressure of the “hoggalites”. Lucky for Publix now one was injured by these unsafe acts. For customer safety, the LEOs should have removed them from the store.
