Tom Cruise has heralded the start of shooting on Paramounts long-anticipated Top Gun sequel. Cruise tweeted an image late Wednesday featuring his character, Pete Maverick Mitchell, looking at a fighter jet down the tarmac.
The teaser image for Top Gun: Maverick, which Cruise also posted on his Instagram page, featured the legend Feel the need, a reference to the original films legendary quote, I feel the need the need for speed, accompanied by the hashtag #Day1.

A constant cameo role for a John McCain look alike that gets shot down or crashes everything he sits in.
Excuse me...Admiral-Aviator
Me bad
I confess that I’d like to see a remake of Metropolis. It would be pretty vastly different, though.
“1986... thirty-two years on. Maverick made Admiral? Captain at least?”
Beltway Bandit Contractor. :)
Guy’s had some really bad health issues for the last decade. I still think he’s one of the best actors ever.
Doc Holiday himself. He was good in Spartan too.
Perhaps it will be a fleet of drones promoting Scientology?
That would be interesting but they would probably
screw it up with a bunch of PC,XYZBTQ nonsense.
Pretty great photo.
My dad was in the Navy late 70s to early 2000s, had VHS tapes that guys had camcordered during deployments, especially to Desert Storm. One of the reasons I have fond memories of Top Gun is because it reminds me so much of my dad’s Navy. No gays, no women pretending that they’re fighting-men, no liberal BS. There was some “gay” humor, but only because everybody was straight or damn sure pretending to be straight, so it was just a funny way to make someone uncomfortable.
Probably true. It was a sort of anti-utopia movie, but who knows what they’d do with it today.
So he was an O-3 in 1984-5. Would that make him at least a two-star by now? Maybe higher?
The aging process is cruel — to all of us.
You are aware that Kilmer had been through a bout with cancer that I now think is in remission. He no longer is fat. Cut the guy some slack.
You’re correct, any young pilot from 1986 (32 years ago) would be an Admiral if he was still in the Navy. The max you can do is 33 years. I think the only ones that go beyond that are generals or admirals and they get an extension from Congress because they are deemed necessary. He’d be flying a desk, but it’s Hollywood so anything’s possible right?
If you visit the museum of Naval Aviation at NAS Pennsecola, you can visit the restraunt that is a recreation of the Cubi Point O Club and find his Squadron Plaque.
And an F/18. Nice!
But try they will.
No matter how unseemly, I believe that the Final Destination franchise has now evolved to #6.
That's setting the bar pretty low.
And Mav will be aiding Xenu in his attack on Vatican City.
