An FBI agent got himself into an embarrassing situation on Saturday when his service weapon fell out of its holster while dancing at a Denver club and he accidentally shot a fellow patron while retrieving it.

Denver police responded to Mile High Spirits Distillery and Tasting Bar for an accidental shooting at about 12:45 a.m. on Saturday. According to police, an off-duty FBI agent was dancing at the club when his firearm fell to the ground. He picked the gun up and it went off, shooting another person in the leg.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in "good" condition, according to police.

Many guns today don’t have a safety. Revolvers don’t have a safety. Sigs and Glocks don’t have a safety. Many guns have decockers, but no safety. Your FINGER is supposed to be the safety. Keep your finger out of the trigger guard until you are on target/on trigger.

I am wondering how much this idiot had to drink.

” The gun didn’t go off when he dropped it. In other words, NOT cocked.”

Clocks always cocked. The first step in disassembly is to decock by pulling the trigger.

Possibly the ol’ Sonny Crocket underarm rig.

Wearing that I think I would stand and watch as opposed to dancing.

You know today that cops/FBI are above the law but we are not. They skate while we get the book thrown at us. Who am I kidding? It has always been that way.

I wonder if Mr. FBEye was immediately subjected to a blood alcohol test?

In Colorado, one can carry in a bar. One can drink while carrying in a bar. One cannot, however, be drunk while carrying in a bar.

That being said...

I hope the hoplophobes don't try to use this as an excuse to pass more idiotic gun control.

Always keep a round in the chamber when seconds count; this was taught to me at my qualification renewal for FFDO in order to carry on the flight deck.

“It is 2018? How is it any gun sold today can go off when dropped. “

It didn’t ...the government tool pulled the trigger when he picked it up.

“An FBI agent got himself into an embarrassing situation”

‘this is so embarrassing. I’m so sorry, it was an accident. I hope you’re not too inconvenienced. Really sorry. Here’s my card. We have insurance to clean up messes like this, just call my boss’.

“I would think one of the first things they teach you at Quantico is to keep your damn finger out of the hole when picking up your weapon.”

They do but it makes no difference with a Glock. People are human and humans make mistakes.

How about “Not keeping a round chambered unless in imminent danger”?

I carry as part of my profession. I am not a police officer. Departmental policy for most police forces and federal agencies require that the weapon be chambered. The military is the only exception.

Former NY Giants player Plaxico Buress got 2 years in a NY prison for accidentally shooting himself unholsterd in his thigh at a nightclub. Then again it’s New York no guns allowed utopia.

How many minutes does it take to rack a Glock? Most people could do it in between the initial draw and getting on target with no time lost.

“Departmental policy for most police forces and federal agencies require that the weapon be chambered. “

And we know what kind of handjobs run those agencies. Actually, chambered is okay as long as there is a safety and it is engaged.
