North Korea's top three military officials replaced, U.S. official says

The U.S. official did not identify the three military officials. Yonhap identified them as defense chief Pak Yong-sik; Ri Myong-su, chief of the Korean People's Army's (KPA) general staff; and Kim Jong-gak, director of the KPA's General Political Bureau.

Trump wants North Korea to "denuclearize," meaning to get rid of its nuclear arsenal, in return for relief from economic sanctions. North Korea's leadership is believed to regard nuclear weapons as crucial to its survival.

Citing an unnamed intelligence official, Yonhap said No Kwang-chol, first vice minister of the Ministry of People's Armed Forces, had replaced Pak Yong-sik as defense chief, while Ri Myong-su was replaced by his deputy, Ri Yong-gil.

It said Army General Kim Su-gil's replacement of Kim Jong-gak as director of the KPA's General Political Bureau was confirmed in a North Korean state media report last month.

I think that’s a good sign. He’s making sure that potentially opposing military men are out of the way.

Replacing the Generals with other Generals.

Goal: Take power and influence away from those most likely to lead a coup to overthrow Kim and his regime.

No evidence needed. Kim is just playing the odds.

‘Replaced’ as in, ‘Fed To The Dogs’ Replaced? *SHUDDER*

PLEASE don’t ever forget that our President is dealing with a blood-thirsty nut job, here. Lil’ Kimmie has NOT hesitated to kill his own relatives; I pray that PDJT’s SS is on their game if and when they meet.

Yes, I would like the PEOPLE of NK to be FREE, but I also don’t want any of us losing sight of the fact that we’re dealing with a violent, psycho, unpredictable PUNK, here.

(Same goes for Putin.)

Yeah. Everyone wants everything North Korea enjoys. They need those nukes to safeguard the lice, parasites, dirt soup stocks, and weapons stock piles.

I think the generals are more a danger to North Korea than any other nation. Fear and extortion was at best a mediocre living for even those in charge.

“This points to two things: the consolidation of Kim Jong Un’s power as the sole leader of North Korea and strengthened cooperation between the North’s party and military as the country works toward further economic development,” said Yang Moo-ji, professor at the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Agree with this...

Kim has been the leader for several years. I don’t think there are any competing power bases at this point. But since he will be leaving the country for a few days and is going to be negotiating a deal that would probably be opposed by some of his generals he’s removing the top guys. It’s more the timing that’s important. Anything these guys had in the works is now without a leader. Anything their successors might put together won’t be ready for implementation until after he gets back.

“Shuffling the deck before the meeting.”

Always 10% that don’t want to go along with the program. Their goal; screw things up for everyone else.
Dear Leader or not, Kim’s bound to have Big Time internal opposition. Plenty of the Old Guard that were aced out of a better job when Kim Jong-il died or saw compadres used for target practice. His recent on again-off again behavior may validate his doing the “needful” internally.
