Most digital cameras I've used allow selection of shutter sound or silence.
Older photographers find some comfort in hearing the audible feedback of a film camera. The source of the film camera's sound doesn't even exist in a digital camera.
Of course it exists in a (some) digital camera(s). It’s the shutter in the mirror box.
