PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) -- North Koreans are getting a new look at U.S. President Donald Trump now that his summit with leader Kim Jong Un is over and it's a far cry from the "dotard" label their government slapped on him last year.

Previously, even on a good day, the best he might get was "Trump." No honorifics. No signs of respect. Now, he's being called "the president of the United States of America." Or "President Donald J. Trump."

Was he born to the gods on Mt Paektu?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

So the POTUS gets more respect in N Korea than by these media asshats in the US. That’s shameful and treasonous in my opinion.

That may be significant. It has long been the policy of NK to demonize the United States, and convince its people that we present an existential threat. If they shift towards us not really being all that horrible, it may signal a true willingness to de-escalate overall, including nukes.

President Donald J. Trump.

Probably sounds just as pleasant in Korean!

I was wondering how the North Korea government mouthpiece (I don’t think you could dignify it by calling it the press) was playing this. I figured they would be editing the pictures and translations to make it look like President Trump and the American delegation was groveling to “Dear Leader” and begging for peace...

Peter Ward, a North Korea researcher at Seoul National University who researches and studies N.Korea stated:

N.K. referring to him as “Donald J. Trump, president of the United States of America.”.....“The tone is unlike anything that they have used to refer to 'any' sitting U.S. president since the Korean War—I cannot think of one exception,” Mr. Ward said.....“It’s quite a sudden change,”

It’s going to be interesting to watch. If Kim can pull it off he can give up nukes as no longer needed and the prosperity that comes from it will make him truly beloved by his people.

I was surprised to see the AP would publish something positive about the summit.

But then I looked at the writer and discovered it was a guy in North Korea. So they must have let the story out before the real AP editors arrived in the office to spin it into a negative story.

NK is giving more respect to the Donald than the typical dim or gop-e type.

He inherited the concentration camps. If he closes those down in move toward openness and freedom, and then toward a united Korea, it will be amazing.

I never thought the Berlin Wall would come down. So I will be happily surprised if something like this happens in Korea.

You’ll notice they portrayed it as “Two nuclear powers” meeting as if NK’s nuclear weapons forced the US to come to the table.

Definitely not something Pyongyangites are used to seeing and experience....... One woman was 'overcome by emotions' and heard exclaiming, "Wow, had no idea they would issue a joint statement!

This is in the underground train station

The video he made was for the North and South Korean people to see. These idiot pundits don’t understand that.

If the people of Iran and North Korea can see “what if”
things may change.

I believe so....it's gone too far now and things are moving rather quickly. N.Koreans are 'adjusting' after decades of the US being seen as their main enemy.....here's the official notice KCNA's official translation of his return..

and convince its people that we present an existential threat.

We actually do. Or did. Perhaps Crazy Little Kim figures he can defuse that threat by acting like (or even becoming) a normal sane human being.

Rodong News mentioned something it wouldn't have only recently. During his Singapore tour:

"Singapore is clean and beautiful and every building is stylish ... KJU said he's going to learn a lot from the good knowledge and experience of Singapore."

The N.Koreans actually saw this photo, which in the past the regime would not have shown them the luxury of the outside world....

You are right on. The question is, will the North Korean people see the video? I don’t know.

That action if real speaks more loudly than the signatures on a maroon foldered document
