Wray defends FBI after 'sobering' watchdog report
The Hill ^ | 06/14/18 | Katie Bo Williams

FBI Director Christopher Wray told reporters Thursday afternoon that he was "disappointed" by the findings of the Justice Department office of inspector general's (OIG) report on the bureau's conduct during the 2016 election, saying that the bureau accepted its recommendations.

“As far as the report goes, there are some sobering lessons in there,” Wray said in a brief press conference held shortly after the 500-page report was made public. “Number one, the importance of trying to make sure we avoid even the appearance of bias in all of our work."

But he also voiced support for the integrity of the bureau as an institution, tacitly defending the law enforcement agency from months of broadsides from President Trump and other Republicans who have damned it as “corrupt” and “biased.”

“The OIG report makes clear that we’ve got some work to do,” Wray said. “But let’s be clear on the scope of this report. It’s focused on a specific set of events back in 2016, and a small number of FBI employees connected with those events.

“Nothing in the report impugns the integrity of our workforce as a whole, or the FBI as an institution.”

As much as I expected to be disappointed, I have to say this is disheartening.

I know we have to trudge on and work to affect change, call out those accountable, and prosecute the guilty but how do we do this when those we elect and those who are appointed will not do their jobs and enforce our laws?

What's next?

Wow...CNN style comments abound. I guess it would be different if Trump were surrounded by backstabbing collusive insiders trying to overthrow him 24/7 for the past 2 years...

The reporter who was tipped off about the ‘tarmac meeting’ said the FBI was the agency that told him he supposedly couldn’t take pictures. As in they were there as Lynch’s security I guess? I kind of suspect Bill Clinton’s Secret Service as the possible tip off source.

The FIB is an enemy agency in this country. They embody the principal that leftists have no prosecution while you and me WILL BE PROSECUTED. This is a double standard. It is the same mentality that burned 87 people ( 24 little children) alive at the Mount Carmel Seventh Day Adventist church in Waco. They are not worth a crap.

total BS statement by Wray

I will never have respect or affection for the FBI again.
They cannot and will not clean up the ultra corruption in their own leadership .
Some of the agents ought to settle matters for themselves .

If these findings don’t convince him his agency is corrupt and biased, then he is in the wrong job.

Wray is doing as much damage to the FBI as Comey did. Watching him whitewash this made me physically sick to my stomach. He is a slimy swamp creature

Wray is part of the problem then.

Is there not one honest man in the DOJ and FBI?

Fair and good question.
I can’t think of any outcome that will counter this IG report.
Maybe someone else can, but I can’t.

What’s next? We watch what happens, as opposed to what is said. IG reports are never broadside attacks. They can’t be. They have to report only what can be objectively approved, and refer judgment to the appropriate authorities.

Further, what Wray said is not false. We have long known that a small group of highly placed agents were behind the vast majority of the evil done.

I find myself a bit disappointed by the report’s conclusions as reported thus far, but this is not the final act of the play. President Trump has thus far hopped from rock to rock in the DC swamp. I don’t know whether Sessions is simply doing his job the way it is supposed to be done - quietly - or whether he is also a bad actor.

I do know that under President Trump, the federal government has become more transparent than it has been in over 28 years.

The wheels of government justice grind exceedingly slow. The needs of the nation - beyond the fervent wishes of us conservatives to punish Obama and Hillary- MUST come first. I trust President Trump to defend the nation.

I have no idea. I wonder who the FBI agents were and what they reported about that meeting. The FBI was right there—Comey being scandalized that meeting happened at all was kind of ridiculous from the start. That someone leaked about it and it was reported was the scandalous part, for him.
