Call me a chauvinist but women should not be in the front lines of the military or law enforcement. Women should not be handling male prisoners, either in jails or transportation.. The bet here is the scumbag took the female officers gun and did the murders.
And why most jails/prisons the guards are unarmed when they're dealing directly with inmates. But the fact remains, even cops on the streets transport violent felons all the time while armed. Bottom line is, if they're going to put obvious weak links in the chain, they should expect that chain to be broken on occasion.
I would be interested in knowing the type of holster the officers were issued.
“I really cant understand a Cops mental state when they have to transport killers. They should have been in condition code red.”
It just doesn’t work like that. Of course they should be, but eventually anything you do all day long becomes routine. A warship cannot remain at general quarters all day long.
And don’t underestimate a sociopath like him being friendly, deferential, and cooperative to relax them and put them at ease...until that split second he explodes into sudden violence. Don’t forget, he has made that trip dozens of times before.
OK, I’m in Missouri and pretty familiar with the case. The guy was caught with a 9mm in his car that matched ballistics with the one that killed the woman in 2015, he killed her while on parole.
In 2017 he was arrested for killing another woman, would you be transporting this animal without having him in leg irons and thoroughly zip tied? I can’t for the life of me understand why he wasn’t thoroughly incapacitated for transport. This was absolutely preventable and should have never happened.
Should not make any difference. My brother handles them every day, they use a belly chain with a handcuff box, there is no way a prisoner could overcome an officer if they are handled properly. This sure as hell wasn’t a guy you wanted to be nonchalant with!
If they are belly chained with the hands in the front it does make a difference. Been there. Done that.
Standard practice to have weapon outside the facility. Sometimes a cage between the weapo0ned officer and the inmates. But always secured inmates.
In some parts of the country there have been ambushes by armed people.
I worked for the Cal youth Authority which had up to age 25. We had no wepons in the department, lethal that is. Two of our transportation officers were approached by two armed individuals at the old Denver Airport in the parking lot.
In Los Angels it is likely anyone approaching you will also be armed. The key are the chains used on the prisoners and the number of guards armed and the spaces kept so that a weapon taken from an office would be responded to by a second officer in time.
For a short troop from jail to court, there should be no rewasbonfor direct contact with the inmates. When the van or bus arrives several more officers should be there to meet them
I must be missing something, if you know something is routine and you’re transporting a Nutjob shouldn’t you be at high alert?
