Texas Republican Party Endorses Marijuana Decriminalization
Forbes ^ | June 16th, 2018 | Tom Angell

Delegates at the Republican Party of Texas convention on Saturday voted to approve platform planks endorsing marijuana decriminalization, medical cannabis and industrial hemp. They are also calling for a change in cannabis's classification by the federal government.

"We support a change in the law to make it a civil, and not a criminal, offense for legal adults only to possess one ounce or less of marijuana for personal use, punishable by a fine of up to $100, but without jail time," reads one of the party's new positions.

"Congress should remove cannabis from the list of Schedule 1," says another.

A third asks lawmakers to expand an existing state law that provides patients with limited access to low-THC medical cannabis extracts so that doctors can "determine the appropriate use of cannabis to certified patients."

And a fourth says industrial hemp is a "a valuable agricultural commodity."

That the official GOP organ in a red state like Texas would voice support for such far-reaching cannabis reforms is the latest sign of how mainstream marijuana has become in American politics.

I’m envisioning apathy, reduced intelligence and ambition, and general moral corruption seeking the false comfort of socialism.

the experience of Colorado is basically proving that those who are against legalization were correct.

Polls show that Coloradans continue to support the legalization they voted in; what do you claim to know that they don't?

“So how do you explain the fact companies can’t fill positions because too many fail the piss test?”

Extremely poor parenting. No morals being taught in public schools & zero self-control being encouraged.

“People, at large, won’t be able to handle it.”

You have no way to know this lol! I don’t care who you are, that’s funny!

“Mandatory drug testing for welfare would be needed.”

It’s been needed for decades.

Tell me, if it so critical to test those in positions which can affect the safety and welfare of others, why aren’t those in Congress tested randomly/routinely? How about cops, firemen, mayors, city counsel members, judges, nurses, doctors, et al?

Maybe you could start the first "Adopt a Doper" program so the taxpayers won't be stuck with the inevitable bills created by the doper?

Anyone who before legalization was responsible enough to not use illegal marijuana will after legalization remain responsible enough to not become a bill-creater. I don't like being stuck with the bill for trying to enforce the War on Pot, nor the bills for the additional destruction created by the War on Pot's putting profits in criminal hands.

Polls show that Coloradans continue to support the legalization they voted in; what do you claim to know that they don't?

(1) Increased incarceration rate for Marijuana after it was passed than before, (2) Marijuana joints primarily situated in black neighborhoods, skyrocketing usage amongst them, (3) skyrocketing usage in general, (4) black market increasing not decreasing, (5) minimal increase in tax revenue, probably offset by costs for police, increased traffic deaths, people poisoning themselves and needing increased medical costs, (6) schools getting overrun by kids with marijuana.

Basically nothing has occurred that they promised would occur, and everything the people who opposed legalization said would occur has basically occurred.

minimal increase in tax revenue

Since that claim is manifestly wrong, I'm going to have to ask for evidence for the rest.
