All the lives lost in WW II for nothing.

You really cant say that until the last chapter in history is written. And we don't keep peace or defeat evil in the world without some cost (usually in blood). There is now and has been for my entire life conflict between good and evil all over the globe. I cant think of a time when you could not find more than a dozen armed conflicts going on at any time. The sacrifices made by the greatest generation in WWII led to the rise of the greatest nation on this planet and inspired the best mankind has had to offer so far. None of us can be complacent about keeping that light lit.

China has apparently attacked Viet Nam several times since the late seventies over the Spratly Islands. I had no idea and I think it never hit the news. Apparently, satellite photos show that China is preparing to do this again to force VN to give up their claim and occupation of 21 islands that sit on an ocean of oil. One of these conflicts cost VN 22,000 soldiers. You’d think somebody would put this in the news, but no.

Yes, you are of course correct. And the new “populist” (i.e. freedom) movement shows hope.

I think it is the embrace of fascism in the EU that besmirches those deaths.

But reading this kind of news always deeply saddens me.
