Calif. EBT Cards To Be Disabled Sunday For Planned Outage

State and county officials are urging recipients to do their shopping and make necessary cash withdrawals prior to the outage.

EBT cards, which replaced food stamps under federally supported welfare programs as of June 2004, can be used for purchases at participating stores and also enable recipients to make cash withdrawals.[?]

Locally, the program is administered by the Los Angeles County Department of Social Services.

The services will be down while the state of California transitions from its current EBT vendor to a new one. During the transition, the customer service line listed on each EBT card will not be in operation and the EBT website — http://www.ebt.ca.gov — is down until 11 p.m. Sunday.

I was in the grocery store and the lady in front of me purchased about $10 of groceries using her EBT card, got $100 cash back.
When I got to the cashier I asked her "You can get cash with an EBT card?!? She said yup and they come in through multiple lines purchasing a minimal amount of actual groceries and get the maximum cash ($100) until they've used up the monthly allotment - all in one day.
We, the taxpayers, are funding EBT grifters.

When did it become legal to get cash from food stamps in any form? I was unaware of this. I know they’ve always had illegal ways of doing it, but I hadn’t known it was legal now. Would I be correct if I guessed it happened under Hussein’s watch? Or even possibly under Bush II? No wonder they need so many free food programs to supplement their already-taxpayer-funded cash kickback. They can squeeze the cash out of this, and then leech their kids’ food from another 100 taxpayer-funded sources. Suck it up taxpayers, you can always take a second job to pay your own bills.

I have no idea when it became legal, when I saw this happen it was about three years ago, so under mudboy’s reign. After that I was in a convenience store, in line to pay for fuel. The man in front of me bought chips with an EBT card, got cash back and used the cash to pay for his fuel, beer and cigarettes. I kid you not.

Isn’t that just peachy. Working taxpayers give up such things as smoking and drinking so they can pay their own bills, and also support our leech class in the manner to which it’s become accustomed. Actually, it’s infuriating.

Apparently if a person only gets SNAP (Food stamps) they cannot get cash.

Some states combine welfare benefits with the SNAP card. When they are getting cash back they are drawing on their monthly welfare allotment. IMO, beer, fuel, and smokes should not be allowed. As I said, many grifters out there.
