Fox News commentator apologizes for racist remark

News is distancing itself from a racist remark made by one of its paid commentators on Sunday.

The commentator, David Bossie, was arguing on "Fox & Friends" with Democratic strategist Joel Payne, who is black. He told Payne, "you're out of your cotton-picking mind."

Payne was stunned by the remark. He told Bossie had had "some relatives who picked cotton, and I'm not going to sit back and let you attack me on TV like that."

Bossie, a veteran conservative activist, was a deputy campaign manager on the Trump campaign. He also served as a deputy director of Trump's transition team. He joined Fox News in February 2017.

I picked cotton as a teenager. It seems that my dad thought it was a cool idea for his brother to plant cotton on our farm. Guess who had to take care of that forementioned cotton. My younger sister and I. Do you know how much cotton it takes to make a bale? A lot! Make that a whole lot! I admit it was only for one summer but that was one summer too long.

That's a great version.

I've never heard it.

Thanks for the share!

Well, I just gave up eating watermelon.

It’s stupid for anyone on the right to let themselves be paired up on these network shows with a liberal.

You can’t debate with them. No matter what the topic or issue - war, the weather, baseball, abortion, dining, it will always go like this:

“Hot out today”
“It’s not that hot, just a warm 80 degrees”
“You’re a racist!!!”

Fox thinks it has to be “balanced”. Sorry, but on some issues there are not two sides.
Think not? OK, let’s debate slavery. Or justify pedophilia.

Bossie should not have apologized. Nor should Laura Ingraham with that little snot. Giving in to the left only advances their cause.

“It’s just a saying” when its “innocently” used by the Left.Who have developed a very useful hypersensitivity and are attuned to hearing the dog whistle code words everywhere. They will pounce on then whenever and wherever they theoretically find them. Remember the Black Gongresscritter who years ago made a big deal out of someone using the word “niggardly” to mean stingy (which it does) because it sounded like “the N word”?

“Give no quarter to nonsense like this.”

What - you got something against nickels and dimes? And I imagine they think they are worth at least a dollar for such a comment.

I guess it doesn't take a young snowflake to find offense at stuff like this. They find anything to gin up an excuse to feel offended.

“Hey - as an alcoholic I resemble that remark!”

The phrase used to be commonly used without any intent of association with any particular race.

Yes. It was usually used by whites to apply to other whites. I never heard it used in a way that implied that it had anything to do with race or with actually picking cotton. "You're out of your cotton-pickin' mind" is just a folksy, unserious way of saying "You're a little bit crazy."

I saw the exchange - the Black guy was set on a hair trigger to be able to pull the race card because he knew his arguments were all Party-Line fluff and could not stand up in the debate....it was like watching Bill Clinton go from smiles to tears at a funeral....

I did not know Johnny Cash was Black, he and his family were cotton pickers too.

As long as he didn’t accuse the guy of being niggardly - That could have started a riot.

The only way to prevent things like this is totally segregate society.

Oh, come ON, people. This is truly asinine. And the right is feeding into it by groveling and apologizing every time someone yells “raycisssss”.

The correct response is: That’s a popular colloquialism where I come from. I overestimated your knowledge of America.

“I STILL use that expression without even a thought of racism behind it. Come to MY FACE and talk to me about it. This has got to stop. You do not rule over my speech, my thoughts or my life. Bring it, give it your best shot.”

Exactly correct
