I did vote for him and will admit I was a bit skeptical, wondering about his past as a Democrat.
I have been VERY PLEASED with him thus far.
I think he is awesome.
Anyone who can piss off the MSM has my vote!
No president in history has had such little support from his own party.
I think you need to stick the word modern in front of history. This is certainly not true in general. For example, the Whigs expelled President John Tyler from their party in the 1840s while he was president, and then later tried to impeach him! Now, that is what having your party turn against you really looks like. They also refused to confirm many of his appointments and would not even fund much needed repairs for the White House.
Trump has a lot stronger support from the vast majority of Republicans in Congress than this. Many Congressional Republicans have voted with Trump 90% or more of the time. A big problem is that the GOP doesnt have large enough majorities, so a small number of meddling Republican Senators and Congressmen can cause a lot of problems with Trumps agenda. We just need these people replaced, convinced to change their minds, or overwhelmed with more conservatives in the Congress so we dont need to rely on them any longer.
Thanks for clarifying that. I had completely forgotten about Tyler and the Whigs.
Yes, Trump does have some congressional support as you point out, just not enough thus allowing trouble-makers to have an outsize influence.
If you stick to the Constitution you cannot overplay anything.
What do you mean, stick to the Constitution.
It’s not a context free document.
What’s more, slavery was overplayed. We are still suffering from the long term consequences. And so it was amended out, whoop de do. Before that, people were “sticking to the Constitution” as well.
Don’t equate any mortal document with holy writ.
It’s written in English and has a clear process to amend.
How disappointing Trump’s success must be to the DC machine. A guy with no political experience that has never held office before comes in and makes things happen in 18 months - economy turned around, North Korea comes to the negotiating table, Russia next at the table, supreme court justices that actually believe in the constitution being appointed... The Dems are turning more socialist while the mainstream republicans realize that the conservatives in the country are with Trump more than with them. Trump has a clear “if you aren’t part of the solution, you are part of the problem” approach to management and people are now realizing that....
Propagandist.
