Amy Coney Barrett Speaks
The Federalist Society ^ | 7/1/2018 | Federalist Society Staff

Posted on 07/01/2018 9:03:59 AM PDT by House Atreides

There has been a lot of discussion on the possibility of Trump selecting Judge Barrett as his nominee for the current SCOTUS vacancy. Surprisingly (to me anyhow) there has been a lot of opposition to her expressed here by FReepers with a significant portion because she is a woman and thus viewed as prone to “evolve”. Many FReepers who I know to be women are among those opposed to her because of the view that women Justices are subject to this “evolving”.

Others oppose her because of concern that they don’t know much about her. If you go to the linked site, you may learn some more about her and help fill in some gaps.

Precisely, and there is no reason to believe that a talented law student who sought him out as a clerk would be any different simply because they share the same religion.

Beware of people with multiple names or hyphenated names.

It means the person can't make up their mind about who they are.

Do you want them making decisions on the SC that could affect all of our lives for decades?

Just my opinion....

I have three names.

But I only use two.

Usually the people who use three names are... let’s see, women assassins and serial killers.

Coincidence, I’m sure.

Yeah, I don’t doubt you at all on that, and it wouldn’t surprise me to find out that Barrett is solid too, but try to bear with me on this subject if possible, because I am a naked misogynist and blatant sexist.

Still though I love women and yeah there are plenty of totally screwed up men out there too.

I generally am not a big fan of the three name thing.

I’m open to her though.

I’m just bitching about it, because it’s basically a reflex.

As I posted to someone else, don’t take me too seriously, I’m a misogynist and a sexist. Can’t help myself!

True, but it would do no harm to try to get at least a sense of where she stands on the issue (strict Constitutionalist, or not) in the meantime.

Lighten up Francis. Read a little about her and try to open your mind a bit.

The law school is considered conservative. The university is run by some lefties, but there is a pretty solid component of kids who are conservative. Not Hope College conservative, but for a top 25universiy, it’s not bad.

Try reading this...... https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/potential-trump-scotus-pick-amy-coney-barrett-belongs-to-religious-group-that-calls-women-handmaids.1677395/

Your assumption is that anyone who has adopted a child from Haiti is an abuser, so there’s likely no changing your mind here, but at least read about her background, and her husbands. Not everyone is awful.

Myself, I will withhold judgment until I see Amy in the swimsuit competition.

Or perhaps you were recognizing that not all adopters are bad folks. Hard to tell from your post, so don’t take my first response the wrong way.

I meant that ACB would have a very hard time with what the Clinton Foundation did in Haiti.

I stated it clumsily.

Nah.. understand. I misread it with my first post and felt uncomfortable with my answer. I think we both hold the same general opinion.

Cheers

Just watched her and Joan Larsen’s confirmation hearing. Both are very impressive I would have no problem with either sitting on the Supreme Court.

I am Catholic and I agree about the immigration situation. I have seen and heard enough Catholic educators and clergy equate virtually unlimited immigration with being charitable and Christ like. I talk about justice for those who will foot the bill for their generosity in giving away this country without even asking the US citizens who should, and must, have a say in the matter.

A SC judge is too big a deal to take a chance on lady that may vote with a liberal pope.
