Maybe, it will not bode well for Red State Dems if they fight this nomination for no better reason than he’s picked by a Republican President.

“My prediction. He will not pass the vote.”

Depends on who makes the case... Democrats may find this man to be the least threat. Especially if they think Trump will nominate someone else (more conservative) from his list.

Hell, the Dems may ram him through as the lesser evil.

Rand Paul’s objections and lack of support may not matter in the least.

NOOOOOO!!!!

Actually I have no idea regarding the relative merits of the top 4 candidates (although I was partial to Judge Amy Barrett, since the Libs seemed to hate her the most), but I’ll trust that the Lord guided the President’s hand to pick a good one.

The problem with the libs today is they hate any conservative!

I get strong Roberts vibes from Kavanaugh too. However, I wouldn’t agree that Roberts or Kavanaugh are a “hint more conservative than liberal.” Roberts votes with the conservatives on the Court far more often than he votes against them. Heck, even moderate Kennedy voted with us more often than not. The problem is they are just not reliable in the big, controversial cases. From his record, I do expect to be Kavanuagh to be to the right of Kennedy, but only in a Roberts sort of way. I think it’s clear he’s not a Scalia or Thomas, but I don’t think it’s fair to consider him a centrist either.

I’m a bit disappointed too, but let’s look on the bright side though. He’ll likely move the Court a little to the right and he’s almost 30 years younger than Kennedy. That’s an improvement. Foremost, Hillary Clinton didn’t get to put another Ginsburg on the Court. Now that’s something to celebrate.

The speech wasnt forYOU!

It was for him getting nominated!

Maybe your idea for a GOOD speech was “ I’m gonna turn over roe v Wade..then allow machines guns open carry...then throw illegals in the ocean...and remove California from the union!”

Local news here in Texas just reported he says that Roe v. Wade is law and he will uphold it. I’m out.

I like your take, but look at what you said...not dependable.

Somebody earlier had this picture of Hillary and said something like at least she wasn’t making the pick. We have been burned since the 1950’s on these nominations by Republicans. The stupid party is just that. Using their logic, I should have celebrated a pick not being made by Dukakis, when Bush picked Souter, who might has well have been picked by Dukakis. I’ve been here way too many times.

I like many others believe, and have believed for years, that the Foster death was not a suicide. But this guy (or now gal) Rodriguez may have been such a pain in the butt back then that he was ignored and his conclusions dismissed.

I wonder if all this will be brought up during the confirmation hearings, not by the Dems who want it to remain covered up, but by some Republicans who want to hear Kavanaugh’s explanation.

You do realize that he has to say that to get confirmed, right? Rand Paul is already out. Lose Collins and Murkowski and it’s game over.

The current crop of Libs/Progressives are playing the part of what Lenin called useful idiots. Their puppet masters seek to destroy America, and the useful idiots don’t question their leaders. I.e., the right questions to ask would be:
Why shouldn’t we uphold our Constitution?
Why shouldn’t we protect our Nation’s borders?

“This guy will be another Roberts.”

What really makes me uneasy and queasy about this pick is all the bushies coming out of the woodwork with their full-throated support...Rove, Luntz etc.

I don’t believe his record backs that up.

Need to hear more about it than objections from the media.

Well, there are reasons to believe he’ll be significantly more conservative than Souter. He’s already written 300 opinions on a federal court bench. Souter had significantly less experience on a federal court and had written very little on controversial issues prior to his appointment. Bush, Sr. relied on Sununu vouching for his conservative bona fides, which it turns out he didn’t really have.

With Kavanaugh we actually have him writing things in opinions and saying things in speeches and articles that indicate he has a conservative/restrained judicial philosophy. Even if doesn’t overturn Roe, I still think he’ll be much more reluctant to legislate from the bench than a Hillary appointee. I think we could have done better, but there is no reason at this point to think that overall he will be a moderate or liberal. And he was vetted by the very conservative Federalist Society.

This is going to present tremendous pressure on McCain to resign so a successor can vote. And don’t forget all the Trump state Dem Senate candidates, deciding if they want to do the kamikaze for no purpose whatsoever, other than making Schumer and hardcore libs happy.

I know he’s a legal establishment intellect. I’m saying his speech tonight was populist, and I think that was influenced by Trump, and it won’t hurt him.

ever since Trump insulted Mccain he has been out to do anything he can to block him. That would include a death bead appearance in the senate to vote down the nominee
