In fact, as far back as the 1850’s Karl Marx was ADAMANTLY opposed to a UBI.

I believe Milton Freidman also supported some form of guaranteed annual income .

Explain to me how a UBI would be cheaper and reduce power of the state?

What happens when Mr. druggie spends his $500 in 2 days?

A good socialist state would continue to support him with welfare, food stamps, etc, all paid for by 'the rich' and others.

I would also think that this would increase the power of the state, as so many rely on the monthly check.
