What happens when everyone makes a smartphone that does the same as a iPhone?
My 4 year old LG3 has nearly the same specs as the newer Samsung S8. I bought used for $65 and $69 while the S8 is $800 new.

Nice try. . . they don't. . . Do you realize how long people like you have been saying that canard about Android phones that don't make a profit because they are competing in a price race to the bottom of a commodity market in which Apple just does not play? So much so that Samsung released their flagship Galaxy S8 at $859, $10 more than Apple's iPhone 8, but then they immediately allowed their retail sellers to discount it a week later by 40% or even 50% through buy one, get one free offers.

As a result, Apple has consistently taken home between 90% to 106% of ALL cellular phone handset sales profits in the industry every quarter for the last five years. How does one get to 106%?! Simple, the others post reported losses on their books, pumping money out the door instead of profits on their cellular phone sales revenues!

You're trying to compare Apple's to rotten oranges. Doesn't work.

They pretty much do. When was the last time you saw a feature phone or flip-phone other than with housewives and cranky old men who go around grumbling about how their "good old rotary phones" were the only phones we ever needed?

Samsung basically copied the iPhone and as a result, they had to pay Apple billions in damages. It was still worth it to Samsung as they now have a large chunk of the smartphone market (though Apple still has a monopoly on the profits).

The iPhone (or Samsung equivalent) is simply an amazing piece of technology. It is quite possibly the greatest consumer technology product of all time and an engineering marvel.

Were an iPhone to be taken back in time to just a few decades ago, people would conclude, after seeing all the features, that it could only have been produced by an advanced civilization from another galaxy - or maybe from humans on Earth but not for hundred years or so.
