HAS EUROPE BECOME AN IRANIAN TOOL TO CIRCUMVENT U.S. SANCTIONS?

On Monday, European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, in conjunction with the top diplomats of Britain, France and, for that matter, Germany, released a joint statement expressing "deep regret" over the re-imposition of American sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

"We are determined to protect European economic operators engaged in legitimate business with Iran," the politicians wrote. "This is why the European Union’s updated Blocking Statute enters into force on 7 August to protect EU companies…from the impact of US extra-territorial sanctions."

The “blocking statute”—a law enacted in one jurisdiction to obstruct the application of a law enacted in another jurisdiction—essentially prohibits EU firms from complying with US sanctions and provides mechanisms that allow businesses to recover any resulting damages while negating potential foreign court rulings against them.

For good measure, the EU committed to the "preservation and maintenance of effective financial channels with Iran, and the continuation of Iran's export of oil and gas."

The EU transformed itself into an Iranian tool after the Trump administration rejected its calls to receive exemptions from the new financial penalties; which, in turn, followed months of EU groveling to Tehran in the form of a "negotiating process" aimed at devising a sufficiently large bribe to entice the Islamic Republic to remain in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, more commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal.

Shameless EU cares more about business profits then preventing Iran the chief funding nation of Terrorism in the world from funding Hamas, Hezzbollah, destabilizing Syria, Yemen, Libya. EU is letting Iran develop Nukes and ICBM's while their citizens are suppressed.

Some set of Allies the EU is. Why are they considered allies, why are we paying 70% of Nato funding?

Interesting why they would take that stance when their countries are being torn apart by Muslim immigrants. You would think that...Oh wait...they’re scared to death of reprisals so would rather put up with their crap than do something about it.

ISIS is defeated, to a great degree because Iran helped Syria. US policy under Obama and hillary/McCain got weapons and training to ISIS. I'm on a different page from you. I didn't see Israel or Saudi Arabia involved in defeating ISIS. In fact, they made it harder for Assad and his allies to do so.

I assume Israel has nuclear weapons. If you were Iran, would you give up nuclear weapons as long as Israel has them? President Trump does a lot of good things, but I'm not at all convinced he's getting it right on the ME, as far as what follows ISIS is concerned.

Looks that way. Germany and Italy are Iran’s main trading partners there, and other nations in Europe want to take a big chance on their security in return for economic and energy benefits. The U.K. has been very stubborn about it, and maybe France, IIRC.

The USA and the Gulf states which Iran showers with missiles and threatens should band together against the EU.

Saudis could cut back on their oil and withdraw money in EU banks to send a message that this is important to peace in the middle east.

The USA could close EU military bases and move them to non EU countries.

The EU wants to pay companies not to assist the USA make Iran stop its aggression, let them suffer loss of access to trade with the USA.

The companies will do what is best for their profitability. If US Sanctions actually bite, they will comply.

Siemens for instance will likely comply with the sanctions.

Banks and insurerors are the key. They will likely comply as well.

Unfortunately it is not only the Kraut colony called the EU.
From the Canadian newspaper Toronto Sun regarding Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau - May 17, 2017
“TRUDEAU COZIES UP TO IRAN’S BRUTAL REGIME”.
That may explain why Saudi Arabia just withdrew its ambassador from the Canadian capital,Ottawa .

Europe has never been an ally in the real sense of what an ally is...they used our young men to fight their wars, they used us when they needed money and bled us dry. They used us to keep the communists at bay. They are only allies when they need us for something otherwise they work against us with our enemies.

We need to get over our romantic, myopic view of Europe that so many of our people have held for far too long. An America-friendly Europe hasn’t existed for many decades, if it ever did at all, and the truth is Europe is our nightmare.

they can enact all the “blocking” statues they want, but that won’t prevent their multi-national corporations and mega-banks from losing billions from retaliatory U.S. sanctions on themselves should these companies violate U.S. sanctions themselves ... these giant EU companies do far more business with the U.S. than Iran, which is why they’ve already announced that they’re not gonna slit their own throats by doing business with Iran ... and it’s driving the leftist EU governments insane that they don’t have the power to order their own corporations to destroy themselves on the alter of Iranian benevolence ...
