Scientists find way to make mineral which can remove CO2 from atmosphere
Phys.org ^ | Aug. 14, 2018 | Goldschmidt Conference

Posted on 08/14/2018 10:36:38 PM PDT by Innovative

Scientists have found a rapid way of producing magnesite, a mineral which stores carbon dioxide. If this can be developed to an industrial scale, it opens the door to removing CO2 from the atmosphere for long-term storage, thus countering the global warming effect of atmospheric CO2. This work is presented at the Goldschmidt conference in Boston.

Project leader, Professor Ian Power (Trent University, Ontario, Canada) said:

"Our work shows two things. Firstly, we have explained how and how fast magnesite forms naturally. This is a process which takes hundreds to thousands of years in nature at Earth's surface. The second thing we have done is to demonstrate a pathway which speeds this process up dramatically"

Excellent work and great news.

This is the kind of scientific approach should be taken, instead of using the threat of "global warming" to cripple entire industries.

So do they have a way to make oxygen after they remove all of the plant food from the atmosphere?

I bet this leads to a bad shitz effect later. The worst things ever on earth have been perpetrated with the best intentions. Climate change/ global warming is BS. Hope they drop the first bag and it cause them to grow webs between their toes. A crock of crap.

Um. Can’t they just plant, more plants?

Seems pretty simple. Rather than some hi-tech approach which just removes CO2 and stores it.

Plants.

This is how they start killing the masses to reduce the global population...Morons. wonder what’s gonna happen when the Nature Nuts, realize that this is “killing the trees”.

The priest-cucks put seeds in the ground and are amazed that plants turn CO2 into oxygen and sugars for plant growth.

All of you were making great points.

Planting more plants/trees is certainly a desirable solution.

This mineral can be used to absorb just some of the “excess” CO2.

But this is vastly preferable to shutting down entire industries in the name of fighting global warming.

Hey how do you spell Planet Druidia? Steal all the oxygen and we’re good. Lonestar where are you? Scientists live for government grants and are azzholes. Is it possible this is an idiot idea? Bwaahaaaaaa!

So they found an intensive, expensive solution to a problem that doesn’t exist while they could’ve been curing cancer or finding a way to feed starving millions?

Been a long time since I saw the movie. Tried to get my boys to watch and they left in about 10 minutes.

And that’s how we killed the plants, and thus, every animal including us, on the planet.

CO2 is required for plants, just as oxygen is for us. The amount of CO2 is a cyclic process, and there is no proof mankind contributes in any meaningful way to any change in CO2 in our environment.

Tell me what is the right/safe/correct PPM of CO2 with or without mankind intervention.

Since you cannot, what is considered excess CO2?

This is a solution in search of a manufactured problem.

I think before we do any of this we ought to make sure that CO2 is a problem. So far I haven’t seen it.

Why don’t they recycle all the asbestos that’s being buried in hazardous waste sites, and extract the magnesium from it? [/s].
