HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Southwest Airlines says passengers on four flights between Dallas, Houston and Harlingen may have been exposed to the measles.
The airline says it has contacted travelers with help from the CDC who shared a plane two weeks ago with a passenger later diagnosed with the highly contagious virus.
These flights include:
- Flight No. 5, between Dallas and Houston on Aug. 21, 2018
- Flight No. 9, between Houston and Harlingen on Aug. 21, 2018
- Flight No. 665, between Harlingen and Houston on Aug. 22, 2018
- Flight No. 44, between Houston and Dallas on Aug. 22, 2018
The Houston Health Department said Thursday night that it is assisting in the investigation into the measles case.
The health department says the patient is from north Texas, and that he or she did not leave the airport or visit any airport restaurants or venues. The patient apparently stayed in a waiting area for about an hour on each of the days listed above.
Dr. David Persse says people at the airport are at a much lower risk of exposure for the virus than those passengers who shared the plane with this patient.
"That's why our focus is on directly contacting the passengers to notify them of the risk, inquire about their vaccination status, and make sure they monitor for symptoms and seek medical attention if necessary," Persse said.
Symptoms of measles include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes.
Any person who was on these flights and who develops measles symptoms should contact their medical provider.
The health department says passengers exposed to the patient may develop symptoms as late as Sept. 12.
More ‘turd’ world contamination.
Interesting. 4 planes in 2 days, “did not leave the airport”. Why did he travel, then?
Intentionally spreading the disease. Smells like the JFK flights.
No more discrimination against this poor virus!
Maybe not. People in a certain age group are told to be re-vaccinated should they plan on enrolling in classes at university or other places where there would be a higher risk of spreading the disease. So it may have been the person did not know they were incubating measles as the early symptoms are rather mild.
So he/she went to the airport sick and just hung out for an hour or so on these days, knowing full well that they were deliberately infecting people and spreading it far more effectively than anyone else could have.
Ain’t duh-versity grand? Are we culturally enriched now?
Employee?
Your logic is illogical.
Airliners have become gas chambers/petri dishes/germ incubators. At least on cruise ships you have plenty of elbow room to wretch and crap.
Illegal alien diversity is our strength.
OK could be
Since the smoking ban the air inside planes has become worse due to air filtration and no fresh air.
I think it just recirculates.
Sounds like a crew member to me

I am not impacted but do fly a lot for business. That being said, I stay up on ALL my vaccines, both US recommended and International recommended. I believe that the only travel vaccine that I have not received yet is Japanese Encephalitis.
If you fly more than two or three trips a year, I have the following recommendations:
1) Stay current on your US recommended vaccines if you travel within the US. If you travel outside the US, go ahead and get the full set
2) wash your hands right after you go through screening.
3) carry a small hand sanitizer lotion with you, use frequently
Not a doctor, but remember having measles as a kid. One reason it is so contagious is that you are contagious before you have any symptoms. That’s why nearly every kid got measles back in the dayusually in kindergarten/1st grade. By the time the first kid started showing spots, everyone was infected.
Everybody in my generation had the measles and the mumps and chicken pox. Didn’t hear of us loosing anyone. I’m sure there must have been a few but it wasn’t a mass die off.
