Donald Trump: George W. Bush War in the Middle East the Biggest Mistake in U.S. History
Breitbart ^ | 20 Sep 2018 | Charlie Spiering

President Donald Trump said former President George W. Bush’s decision to go to war in the Middle East was the biggest mistake in American history, in an interview published on Wednesday. “The worst single mistake ever made in the history of our country — going into the Middle East by President Bush,” Trump said in an interview with The Hill.TV. “Obama may have gotten ‘em out wrong, but going in is to me the biggest single mistake made in the history of our country.”

Trump said that the American Civil War was “different” and that he could understand the motivations for that war.

He signaled disgust with Democrats and the media for pushing bad narratives about his presidency, yearning for some bi-partisanship and unity in the country.

“It’s hard to bring everyone together unless there’s a, maybe very large national problem, which we don’t want,” he said. “Maybe that brings people together, like it did for about a day with the World Trade Center, you know.”

The plan was to destabilize the ME and flood the west with third-world primitives.

Can he pick this fight with RINOs AFTER Kavanaugh gets confirmed?

Obama increased our role (and body count) in Afghanistan calling it the right war.

He also took us to war against Libya using our embassy to overthrow the government there. Not very diplomatic of him.

Obama also worked for Islamist led regime change in Egypt and elsewhere. Arab spring he called it. Muslim Brotherhood cheered.

And it started with intentional false CIA info, I believe. I think they admitted later to that.

He’s right. Dubya and his crew walked away without any consequences.

"The plan was to destabilize the ME and flood the west with third-world primitives."

Bingo! The Bush Crime Family did more to destroy America than any other racketeers in American history. Will we ever recover? It will take decades, if ever.

I think Vietnam might be worthy of consideration folks.

Just sayin...

I disagree with him.

Many of us can and do disagree on the methods used (anywhere from dropping nuclear weapons to fighting on the ground as we did) but we had 3000 Americans MURDERED that day.

Many of the same people who decry it now are the same people who would have screamed to high heaven had nothing been done in the aftermath of 9/11.

I disagree with President Trump on this.

I fully don’t understand in hinsight the invasion of Iraq.

I was perplexed by it at the time and knew it would easy to crush the army and take over the country but the aftermath would make Vietnam look easy.

I took a lot of issue with the nature of the protests against the war by the far left but we should never have done it.

There was no way to do Afghanistan right. You didn’t have a liberation and that country is, as was famously put, where empires go to die. The best thing to do is contain it but you’re never going to unite the tribalism of that land that is really a country in name only.

Sheesh, exactly. But then this is a thread from where? because It seems pretty dumb to pick a fight at this moment.

I agree about Iraq, but why would have been the best response to 911. And I know nation building was not it

Wrong war, wrong place, wrong time, wrong reasons. But hey, other than that, pretty successful - in squandering the high moral ground, in US combat effectiveness, and the balance of trade, keeping America and the world dependent on Middle East oil.

“President Donald Trump said former President George W. Bush’s decision to go to war in the Middle East was the biggest mistake in American history”

Will some of the old voices here on FR call Trump a “surrender monkey” or a “cut-and-runner”?

Biggest is a little over the top. It was the apex of the power of the Neocons and the Deep State. It was followed up by their efforts to destabilize Libya and Egypt and the failing effort to do the same in Syria. Changing from Bush to Obama didn’t really slow them down. Trump is a problem for them.

Exactly. We need to get our Bush era RINO confirmed first.

Karl Rove has said that Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, was at the heart of the George W. Bush administration in shaping White House policy.

Bush's Middle East strategy was Clausewitz compared to Vietnam.

He did the same during the presidential campaign.

He brings in a lot of the former democrats with that take on things.

My sense is that Bush totally refused to defend himself over the WMD issue and so weakened the republican brand that they didn’t have a chance against Obama.

I do still wonder a bit why the 911 terrorists were Saudis and Egyptians mainly, that al qaeda was staging out of Afghanistan, but GW was bound an determined to pin it all on Saddam Hussein.

I supported the war, I didn’t care for Hussein, but the real culprits for 911 were not in Iraq.

I have to hand it to POTUS, he never backs away from controversy, no matter how big the storms are raging around him. Love him!!! :0)

Fake news heads are exploding everywhere because they want to just talk about Porny Daniels and Kavanaugh’s liar rapist accuser.
