MQ-9 has a better mission, IMHO. Yes, the sensor operator sets up the shot, but the pilot takes the shot.

More precisely, the RPA guys will be trained in the T-6 simulator. Within the Air Force, training for drone pilots is divided into two parts. That is a direct quote from a USAF site. It would appear, they get some actual stick time in the T-6 as well as simulator training. It makes sense, since UPT, for manned aircraft, is at Laughlin, Vance and Columbus, why would the USAF have real T-6s at Randolph, if RPA training did not include stick time in the actual T-6?

MQ-9 has a better mission, IMHO. Yes, the sensor operator sets up the shot, but the pilot takes the shot.I wasn’t sure who actually physically pulled the “trigger,” but the decision to shoot, will come from way up the food chain. He wants to fly the Reaper, cuz it is armed. 😁

I had been out of the loop for many years, since I retired from the USAF in 88. I didn’t even know, that USAF had replaced the Tweet, with the T-6. I was at Laughlin, for almost half my career. Fortunately, I only had one remote assignment, in the whole 20 years. That was Vietnam. I was sweating another remote, when I came back from Germany, but they sent me to Travis, where I retired, 3 years later.

That’s true. The first time I went to Randolph AFB about 12 years ago, I was surprised to see a white jet taking off that had to be a military version of a 737. Also Lear-type jets flying around, I knew they had those. Pretty cool.
