Donald Trump has ordered the military to be on alert over a US-bound migrant caravan as he declared a national emergency.

Referring to the caravan from Honduras, the president tweeted: "Sadly, it looks like Mexico's Police and Military are unable to stop the Caravan heading to the Southern Border of the United States.

"I have alerted Border patrol and Military that this is a National Emergency."

He added that the US would begin "cutting off, or substantially reducing aid" to three Central American countries.

The LIBTARDS screaming about the use of the military being proscribed in terms of policing the border are woefully ignorant of the military's Constitutionally mandated role to protect the national borders. In fact use of law enforcement to do this has proven to be a disaster and not to cast aspersions on our wonderful law enforcement personnel, but they are simply overwhelmed, under staffed and under equipped. The WALL will help immensely. But the military should have a permanent presence on the border and not in a support role, but that of primary engagement. Look at other countries checkpoints. It's a MILITARY FUNCTION.

I would tell Mexico that if they get within 50? miles of our border we are sending in the Airborne followed up by the Marines.

This might get the Mexican military involved and you know the cartels will be firing on the troops at the least.

If they want a bloodbath so be it. Inside Mexico even better.

I am not sure what your criticism truly is about. I would actually like to avoid a "bloodbath".

It would be best if non-violent methods can be used to stop this invasion. They definitely should be tried first. If that does not work, then we really do need to get on a war footing quickly.

And as you pointed out, the Cartels will fire on American troops if they try to close the border. The response must be something more than a strongly-worded complaint. It will require our Army to destroy hostile forces across the Mexican border, and the Mexican Army and Police had better not get in the way.

Things escalate from there until one side or the other capitulates.

But if you don't want things to escalate, you must have overwhelming forces to back up your position and convince your enemies that you are willing to use them. Ironically, with that condition in place, you may never need to use your forces at all.

It is NOT a Caravan and stop calling it that, it is an INVADING FORCE OF YOUNG MEN, all of which appear to be of Military Fighting age.

Our congress must be forced to put an end to this insanity. Maximum pressure until they finally do the right thing and protect our sovereignty and rule of law.

It’s better to look at this as a humanitarian crisis, and call out the Central Americans on the carpet and ask them why their people feel it necessary to flee to the US?

What are they doing to them?

Then ask the UN what they are going to do to assist Mexico on repatriating them to their countries of origin.

That is the ONLY way this resolves itself in a way that doesn’t end up with a huge public mess at the border two days before midterms.

The president has the authority to declare a national emergency and to use the military to guard the border...AND use Pentagon resources to begin building a wall.

Exactly. Every politician should be asked what they will do to stop this invasion before it is repeated and becomes even bigger. TV ads should be in the works right now set to run if it gets worse before the election.
