Matthew Whitaker is well credentialed and an excellent choice to assume the duties of attorney general. Is Matthew Whitaker a placeholder who can manage Special Counsel Robert Mueller until President Trump decides on a permanent successor for ousted Attorney General Jeff Sessions? Its possible, but its also conceivable that Mr. Whitakers temporary gig as acting attorney general is an audition for the job. Feeling like hes been burned once, and then saddled for the better part of two years with an AG he could no longer abide, the president may want a trial run before he settles on a permanent replacement. (I use scare-quotes because what, these days, is permanent?)
To repeat what I had occasion to say about a week ago, I am a Sessions fan, and I think he got a raw deal. That said, it was time for Trump and Sessions to part ways. The former AG should be proud that he performed admirably and was a very effective proponent of the presidents agenda. I continue to believe his recusal from the so-called Russia investigation was premature and overbroad, but there is no doubt that a recusal of some extent would have been necessary. The president is kidding himself if he thinks otherwise. And it was not Sessions but Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein a Trump appointee who decided to name a special counsel.
That is all water under the bridge at this point.

Never Trump garbage
Sessions was either in on it, or a total moron, pick one or both, but not neither
I heard that Trump is considering Christie ——AAAAUUUUUGGGGHHHHH !!!!!
Andy is being a Sessions apologist, but he undercuts his own argument. True, it was RR who appointed the Mueller probe, but he used the recommended firing of Comey as the excuse - a conflict if ever there was one. In short, Rosenstein arrogated the office of AG without being named AG, thus becoming the defacto head of DOJ. None of it would have occurred had Sessions done one of two things:
1) refused to recuse himself (at Al Franken’s suggestion)during his confirmation hearing or
2) unrecused himself once he realized how out on a a limb he had left the president
I’m also not sure I buy Andy’s generalization that Sessions wasl strongly advocating President Trump’s agenda. It sounds like one legal beagle throwing a bone to another legal beagle
Part of me wonders if Session's early support of Trump was planned, as a hedge to get him into the administration as a GOPe plant in the eventuality of a Trump win.
I heard that Trump is considering Christie AAAAUUUUUGGGGHHHHH !!!!!
Why would he be a bad pick?
the democrats destroyed this guy in New Jersey, remember the fake bridgegate scandal?
Now we have a governor who, successfully covered up RapeGate, 1000000x worse then whatever bridgegate was about. Traffic at a toll plaza that always has traffic is not a scandal, unless of course you are republican and the democrats and their media puppy dogs say it is.
Christie is no friend of the democrats.
He has a record of locking up democrats (reason why they tried to build the bridgegate scandal was payback for putting away a lot of corrupt New Jersey democrats)
He would be a great pick.
Spoken like a true National Review cuck.
These Trust Mueller and Trust Sessions idiots weve been dealing with are deluded Democrats and should be dealt with accordingly.
Trump needs to send his name to the Senate as permanent AG tomorrow. Then he needs to send Rosenstein to Guam.
Don't tell Hank Johnson that.
Trump may be trying him out. I got a good feeling about him.
Well for one thing, Christie, as head of the Republican Governors Association, refused to help Rob Astorino in his 2014 gubernatorial campaign against Andrew Cuomo because Christie was compromised by what you call the fake Bridgegate scandal and needed Cuomo's cooperation as co-head of the Port Authority to save his fat arse.
But more so than that, this is why Christie is a bad pick.
Astorino had zero chance. Cuomo has that state locked up, rural upstate can’t overcome New York and the welfare cities in upstate. The numbers are not there. Its unfortunate.
And the pic is no big deal.
I like Whitaker personally, but I have zero issues with Christie. Christie gets a bad rep here because of that picture, who cares?
A lot of people care about that pic because it shows the lack of character of Christie. You want to welcome the President when he comes to your state after a disaster, but not hang on him like a lovesick puppy. And a lot of us in New York care that Christie did zip to help Astorino regardless of whether the People’s Republic of New York badly needs its own electoral college. I guess we’re just on opposite sides when it comes to Christie.
>>The former AG should be proud that he performed admirably
He didn’t perform at ALL. How the hell could he perform admiarably?
This is just McCarthy getting too personal.
Rosenstein a Trump appointee ////
I have a poor opinion of anyone who posits this trash as though Trump had any idea who rosen-slime was.
He was recommended by who? I’ve heard sessions but I find it difficult to believe that an Alabama guy knew much about an obscure prosecutor from Maryland. I’ve also heard Christie recommended him. Makes more sense since they’re in the same geographical area.
How did rosen-slime come to Trump’s attention? I’ve never heard Trump say how, only that in retrospect “there’s a lot of democrats in Baltimore.”
yes, he would be a good pick except for his TEMPER!
I like a fighter but he needs to grow up a little...
