When I worked for the government back in the early 70s, 3 former presidents died one right after the other - Eisenhower, Truman, and Johnson. The government employees got the day off for each of their funerals. I don’t know about Reagan, Ford, and Nixon. I wasn’t working for the government then.

Its always sad when someone dies. But nobody I know in real life seems to recognize this as an exceptional case outside of him being a former President...even though the talking heads are treating it as a big deal. Seems another disconnect between the real world and plastic media world.

Well, Kennedy was an assassinated Democrat, and every liberal wanted all that opposed him to feel guilty. We had a national day of mourning for MLK—and an annual holiday. Eisenhower had a national day of mourning. We don’t have that many ex-Pres that we can’t have one day in their honor. Now Mc Cain is another story—he did not deserve all that hoop-la.

Yeah I bought 1000s of those forever stamps a while back. I used to use a lot of stamps in business, mailing invoices and statements etc. I have a few 100 left. Maybe not the wisest investment of all time, but not bad. I think I paid 32 cents for them a few years ago, just before the increase that was going to happen then... I figured an easy 10% return at the time. But then we switched to a stamps.com printer because a lot of what I mail takes more than 1 stamp and it puts the address on the label, plus I email a lot more statements so I didn’t use up as many of the forever stamps as I thought I would. But now I think I’ll hold onto a few rolls... forever! 55 cents wow I didn’t even know they were more than 40 cents lol.

Were I the manager of someone who acted like that to a customer and I witnessed it, there would be a serious dressing-down as well as re-training on how to properly greet and assist customers.

Be courteous, smile, and act as though you are genuinely glad to be of service. Make eye contact. My parents taught me that before I was ever even old enough for any sort of job.

I was in my Officers Advanced Course when Reagan died and we were in the field when the day of mourning was announced. We were released at 2400 and had to be back the next day at 0001.

As if the USPS workers care.

Oh, they do. I know a couple of postal workers, and when it was not immediately announced that they'd get a paid day off for a dead POTUS the union got jumping ugly.

Actually, we do. Carter, Obama, Dubya ... they’re a drain on the budget.

This is ridiculous. People oddly enough depend on things happening on time, and that includes getting mail they paid for.
