Boy Scouts of America may declare bankruptcy
New York Post ^ | December 12, 2018 | Max Jaeger

The Boy Scouts of America is mulling declaring bankruptcy amid flagging membership and an avalanche of costly sex abuse allegations, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Leaders have hired Chicago law firm Sidley Austin for help in a potential Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, sources told the outlet.

The organization has been fending off lawsuits over alleged abuse, including one filed by four former scouts who called the club a “pedophile magnet” and alleged that they were molested by scoutmaster Waldron Ackerman between 1974 and 1976.

The organization has reportedly lost two-thirds of its members — some 4 million boys — since the 1970s.

“Wasn’t Rex Tillerson on the board when they accepted gay boys?”

Tillerson pushed it. I'd say the shame belongs to him. A lot of it anyway.

Go pervert; get "WOKE", GO BROKE.

Our son became an Eagle Scout before the BSA went down the toilet.

It is a crying disgrace what the BSA has turned into. There is absolutely no way in blazes that we would ever enroll or encourage our sons to be involved in the perverted BSA, or support the gaystapo infiltrated BSA today.

I’m an Eagle Scout, Class of Nov 1963,...

You are about the same vintage as me...I made it to Life Scout in the early 60's and kind of got disinterested in completing my Eagle program...I still shake my head as I was one merit badge from completing my requirement...Personal Fitness. Which is hilarious as I lettered in swimming and water polo in college and ended up doing some of the most physical things imaginable in the Navy.

At 75, it still bugs me that I did not become an Eagle Scout. Oh well, still doing competition with my horse.

The Left got what they wanted. Force their way in and then engineer it’s destruction. They do it over and over, but people never learn.

I’m a mom. My grandson joined the cub scouts and they had moms as leaders. All they did were girl crafts. My son-in-law took him out as did some other parents.

I am an Eagle Scout, earning it in 1979 in a LDS ward. I've been true to the Eagle Challenge to serve others toiling up Scouting's Trail being a Scoutmaster and a Troop Committee Chairman for many years. Three of my four sons are Eagle Scouts with my youngest earning his last January. One of them is pictured in three editions of the Scoutbook.

My Scouting experience as a teenager prepared me to spend two years in the highlands of Guatemala serving a mission. I wore hiking boots, slept on a straw mat, took cold showers, administered first aid, cooked on a camping stove and using a Coleman lantern for light. I highly value what I learned from Scouting.

With the LDS Church discontinuing Scouting, the other changes and my youngest son an Eagle, my heart is not in it any more. I have doubts about the new program the LDS Church wants to implement.

Liberals ruin everything that is wholesome and good.

9 Chalk up another one for the Marxists.

22 Yup...The marxists have been way too successful in destroying all of our institutions. Now they’re on their final march to bring this country to crisis and then normalization.

35 That is correct. More destruction of decent American society by Progressives. Another well poisoned by the likes of Obama-worshipers.

The Frankfurt School's work cannot be addressed without understanding the objectives of critical theory. Initially outlined by Max Horkheimer in his Traditional and Critical Theory (1937), critical theory may be defined as a self-conscious social critique that is aimed at change and emancipation through enlightenment and that does not cling dogmatically to its own doctrinal assumptions.[17][18] The original aim of critical theory was to analyze the true significance of "the ruling understandings" generated in bourgeois society, in order to show how they misrepresented actual human interaction in the real world, and in so doing functioned to justify or legitimize the domination of people by capitalism. A certain sort of story (a narrative) was provided to explain what was happening in society, but the story concealed as much as it revealed. The Frankfurt theorists generally assumed that their task was mainly to interpret the areas of society Marx had not dealt with, especially in the superstructure of society.

10 Leftists ruin everything. Damn them all to hell.

42 Rush has his “Limbaugh law”: Any organization not explicitly convervative and bound to moral values, will bow to political correctness and be unstoppable in the road to ruin.

96 I had not heard that before . Sounds very verifiable.

Not arguing with the Maja Rushie, but …

John O'Sullivan, CBE (born 25 April 1942) is a British conservative political commentator and journalist. During the 1980s, he was a senior policywriter and speechwriter in 10 Downing Street for Margaret Thatcher when she was British prime minister and remained close to her up to her death.[1][2] O'Sullivan served from 2008–2012 as vice-president and executive editor of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.[3] He is currently president of the Danube Institute[4] and editor of the Australian monthly magazine Quadrant.[5] He is also a member of the board of advisors for the Global Panel Foundation, an NGO that works behind the scenes in crisis areas around the world.[6]

He is known for "O'Sullivan's First Law" (O'Sullivan's Law): "All organizations that are not actually right-wing will over time become left-wing."

The pressure on them was relentless for many years. To their credit, the BSA did try to resist it for a long time.

Decades ago, I used to donate to United Way via an employer-sponsored plan where you could designate a small portion of each paycheck to go to them. I didn't necessarily like all the groups that United Way gave to, but because UW distributed their $$ to the BSA and others who I liked, it seemed to be worthwhile *on the whole*.

That feeling ended, as did my support for United Way, when I heard they had dropped support for BSA due to the latter's "controversial" stands, such as not being welcoming to homosexual Scoutmasters, not dropping "God" from their pledge, and the like. After cutting off my United Way donations, I gave some directly to the BSA, and planned to do so in the future. But because that requires diligence, and requires time to write out a check and find the address and a stamp and an envelope, as opposed to auto-withdrawals which require you do nothing after the initial setting up, my BSA donations dropped by the wayside.

My fault.

Although they made a serious error in allowing homosexual Scoutmasters near the end of their life span, I will at least give them credit for holding out so long, at the cost of donations from big PC corporations, before finally succumbing to the jackbooted PC thugs.

RIP, BSA.

Thanks, I’m down with the History lesson.

It’s always good to have these non-trivial observations documented and promulgated.

Lol My local pack kicked me out for being too much of a man and making the other dads seem Like pussies. ( which they are ) For example. I would build giant sledding hills and haul the kids sleds 🛷 up for them all day whereas none of the other dads would even try it once except a couple Then I’d teach the kids to Chop wood and they’d say. It’s too dangerous One old scout master said I’m a guy from a different century (1800s) They finally sent some loser over to read some note to my wife when I was at work. Saying my kid could still come but I was limited We said. Fuck you. Loser faggots. We’ll go camp on our own

"A faggy kid would not have lasted one camping trip in my old troop."

Whereas in my troop, he likely would have been invited into the tent that our Scoutmaster and his close buddy the Assistant Scoutmaster shared, and perhaps have undergone some sort of ... er .... cough cough .... "initiation".

Sorry to hear that. Mine built and decorated wooden shields and swords for mock battles, built boats, went camping. I married an alpha male and have raised alpha males, so I planned activities to encourage them along that vein.

“lost two-thirds of its members.”

Wow. Sad. I went to my relative’s Eagle Scout ceremony in Los Angeles a few months ago and it was inspiring, patriotic and dignified. Too bad the BSA has losers triggering law suits and decreasing customers.

Boy Scouts need clear ethics and courageous role models.
