Nothing wrong with nipping it in the bud but the school didn't have to cut off the entire limb. Make them clean the basketball team's restroom but don't put animal crackers on their record and ruin their chances of improving themselves with college and a good job.

The punishment certainly doesn't fit the crime. They did something stupid and the value is next top nothing.

Your punishment makes sense.

Don’t break the law in Williamson County.

They are serious about crime, and hard on criminals.

“Nothing wrong with nipping it in the bud “

I say this calls for action, and now!

What job would be lost due to a Class C Misdemeanor?

They violated ‘our sanctum’, quick, summon the police to handle something which could have been dealt with with maybe just an hour of detention.

I'm more concerned about what police department would extend any efforts on this case. Is all other crime in the city solved that they've enough time to seek out a cookie monster?

Austin. Where stealing a cookie puts you on trial, but illegal aliens are welcome. Makes nothing but sense.

Common sense left the building a long time ago.

When one of my sons was in middle school, he had a classmate who was particularly prone to fight at the drop of a hat. Almost every day my son came home with a story about who Joe got into a fight with, today. I noticed that the fights almost always happened in the locker room during gym class.

It finally dawned on me. The gym teacher was an old coach who had retired, got bored, and gone back to teaching and coaching. He knew exactly what was happening but he was allowing the students to handle things themselves, especially since the rules would’ve dictated that both particpants in the fight would have been suspended.

The parents of the kid who loved to fight finally got him involved in amateur boxing and that curbed his urge to pound on other people.

Stealing snacks from the faculty lounge? “Back in the day” someone on the faculty of my high school would have found some creative ways to punish the miscreants, like baking cookies for the faculty in the home ec classroom and then serving them to the faculty in their classrooms during class. The culprits would have probably preferred facing a judge!

After witnessing 1st hand for years the abuse schools take from parents for trying to discipline students for stealing, fighting, etc, I'm not surprised to see districts throw in the towel and just turn the cases over to the police.

A Class C misdemeanor is what, the equivalent of a ticket for jaywalking? I doubt that's going to doom anyone's chances for success in life. And these "perps" being juveniles, I believe their records are expunged after a time anyway.

Part of the reason these types of activities are invigorating is because of the risk. With risk, sometimes you lose. This time they lost.

Good thing they are working on a prison reform bill or these hardened criminals might face 25 year sentences for their horrible crimes.

Probably their families are some of the few Republicans in the Austin area. While I agree this probably will not effect any job search, or college applications, just forgetting about this in 5-10 years and not mentioning just might get Bob Mueller charge you with lying to the FBI./ Sarcasm off/
Seriously though, it isn’t the act that might effect them, it is forgetting it in a few years when you go for some government security clearance or LEO job. Background checks just might talk to some of the a**holes at this school. And not mentioning (forgetting) it just might not look so good to some people.

If they want to steal, they should go into politics. That is what prisons are for, the Government doesn't like competition.
